We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Block and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, you love what you do. It’s clear to anyone who knows you. Why and what about your work do you love so much?
I love what I do because it’s really fun to creatively use sound to help tell stories. I work mostly on videogames, cartoons, and advertising campaigns, all of which bring their own technical and creative challenges to the table. For example, how much weight should a cartoon character’s slap have? Should it sound like it was mean? Painful? Silly? Funny? In games, how many electrical zappy elements are too many for a purple, magical beam that heals other characters? What does a magical healing purple beam sound like anyway? How far away should we hear it from? How does the sound change from being heard inside vs. outside and what mechanisms do I use to change that perception when someone runs inside a house in the game? In advertising, when a person sips their beer should we hear the little foam/fizzy bubbles? Would that make us feel like the drink is more refreshing? Should we still hear those sounds if the subject is outside in the hot sun vs. indoors or under the moonlight by a lake? My job entails purposeful sound design decisions like this which contribute to the emotional context of storytelling.

What should our readers know about your business?
Craft Media Group was founded in 2013 and has since served as a trusted source for advertisers, videographers, filmmakers, video game developers, and animation studios to help tell their stories. We get to collaborate on all sorts of projects ranging from cartoons, to video games, advertisements, music, and we also work and collaborate with some of the world’s top talent in these fields. How cool is that?! It’s been a blast! As an organization, two of our core values are great communication with our clients and delivering high-quality work. Those are sort of the two pillars that I attribute to long-lasting partnerships and new business opportunities.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If a friend were coming to visit me who’d never been to San Diego, I’d probably start in Coronado and work my way up north. I’d hit up Liberty Station, Waterfront Bar & Grill in Little Italy, get a “King Kong” burrito at La Perla in Pacific Beach, definitely go to Tasty Noodle House on Convoy for their Xao Long Bow, and certainly chill up in Encinitas for brunch & drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My main “shoutout” goes to my parents who have somehow managed to remain sane after raising a son like me! haha
