Meet Emily Solis | Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Solis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My first memories were making art with my mom and grandpa, both of which were artists themselves. They would draw and paint with me, and that is really how I was introduced to the process of creating. Throughout my life, creating art has been the constant driving force and guiding light, and so when it came to what I wanted to pursue there was really no question. Artistic and creative careers are difficult to work after, as there is no concrete road map or main definition. What I have learned about the artist /creative space as someone who is just starting out: is that you have to work hard, be collaborative, and create the jobs of your dream.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a visual artist, currently working in painting and sculpture, based out of Oceanside, California. My paintings are defined by their attention to detail, vivid use of color, and energetic expression. My most recent work depicts coastal dwellings, lifestyle, and landscapes, inspired by themes of environmental awareness, sustainability, and the fight to educate and end humanity’s shattered symbiosis with mother nature. I work independently in my creative process (when I am making a painting or sculpture), but love to collaborate on shows and events with other creatives. I have hosted many art shows and pop ups, and am now moving into the visual and auditory creative space with Wizards Incorporated to build art and music events in North County. Alongside many fun events coming up in the next months, I will still be working on my personal art and have some exciting work to share in the near future. As someone creating my own path career wise there is stress and challenges everyday, but what I try to remember is that artists are inherently problem solvers. When I am faced with challenges, I use creativity to find a new outcome or way of doing things. A philosophy I work through is “nothing is impossible”, because I’ll find the way things are meant to come together. The beauty in that is that it will never looks exactly how I expect things to turn out, but it exists how it should.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Oceanside: Eris Food Co. off Wisconsin Ave has the best vegan food around, especially for lunch, and you can grab a locally crafted kombucha.
If you’d like to grab a drink, visit the speakeasy Pirate Bar by PCH Sports Bar on the 101.
For a quiet glass of wine or beer just a close walk to the pier, Bunker House Lounge is truly a gem.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my grandfather, Len Nair. He took time to teach me how to paint and draw, gave me constructive feedback, and would always look at my work when I asked him to. Without his instruction and encouragement I would never be where I am today. Also I would like to shoutout my amazing group of friends that come to every show and pop up shop, and are willing to help me build dream event. You all push me to work harder, go bigger, and I don’t think there is a more supportive group.
