Meet Judith Pierce | Designer & Seamstress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Judith Pierce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Judith, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It just happened naturally – I was making clothing for fun and selling them online while working a retail job, and eventually I had so many orders that I was able to quit my job and start making clothing full time. I’ve learned as I go, which has its pros and cons.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make clothing inspired by vintage western Nudie suits and rock n roll regalia. I am self taught but have many other makers of the past and present to look to for inspiration. Being self taught, it’s been a slow road but I’ve been able to learn many different needlework and embellishment techniques over the years. I wouldn’t say it’s been easy but you have to learn somehow. Most crafts take a lot of patience and practice to excel at.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in San Diego but haven’t lived there for many years – I make sure to eat at El Zarape and Sushi Deli every time I visit, and Windansea is probably my favorite beach. I love Amvets thrift store and walking around Balboa Park. All the museums there are great.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m pretty inspired by all my talented friends and my parents for encouraging me to make my weird little clothes as a kid and wear them.
