We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Gardner Chaney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My little sister Lindsay was born down syndrome and we’re only 16 months a part, I’ve never known life without her. We’ve always been very close but her transition to adulthood was very difficult. I had so many opportunities at my fingertips – what college did I want to go to? Did I want to travel? What career did I want to have? For my sister, her future looked very different than mine. She didn’t have choice in opportunities. I wanted more for her- more than a day care, more than being just a case with a number, but I wanted her to have the same opportunities to learn, grow, make new friends, find more purpose and fulfillment and have some fun!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dig it! Coffee Co. is a social enterprise coffee company serving the Las Vegas community! We are NOT your typical coffee shop. Dig it! opened in September 2022 and provides competitive wage job opportunities for adults of ALL abilities while serving some of the best locally roasted coffee in town.

We envision a thriving community built on inclusivity, equity and kindness. Through coffee and connection we offer a new perspective on what inclusion looks like in the workplace.
It’s more than a cup of coffee…
It’s inclusive.
It’s impactful.
It’s an experience.

I am so proud of what we’ve created. An inclusive place for our community to interact with adults with disabilities and have an experience that just might change their heart or perspective. It’s also a place that not just values differences but celebrates them! Providing equal and competitive wages for all of our people I hope inspires other business owners to do the same. Our people truly just want the same things we all do; to find purpose, value, be independent, have coworkers they enjoy and work in a positive, inclusive work environment.

We have had people in various states reach out to franchise, so our goal really is to grow our brand and impact of helping to close the unemployment gap within the disability community.

This has been anything but easy. There have been lots of ‘no’s’, lots of failures and learning opportunities but when I have people who come to work every day and are SO grateful and happy to have the opportunity to be a part of what we’re building, it’s all worth it.

Lessons I’ve learned along the way:
1. People matter most / invest in your people
2. Keep your WHY top of mind. If you have a strong enough WHY/mission/purpose, you can get through any hardship.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1. Dig it! Coffee Co. – DUH!!! coffee, great breakfast (acai bowls, breakfast burritos, croissants)

2. Hike in red rock – it’s beautiful!

3. Dinner and drinks at Esther’s Kitchen – the best bread and pasta!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband- he is a born entrepreneur and has supported me through all of the trials of starting and owning a business. He also believes wholeheartedly in me and my mission – he’s the greatest mentor I’ve had in starting/owning my businesses.
