We had the good fortune of connecting with Mista Doesha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mista Doesha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was always told my writing was creative in school. Doing book reports was always super fun for me. To take a good story and explain the way it makes you feel is an amazing experience. I also had a knack for changing the words of songs to express a situation or experience. It made bad situations better, and good situations great. Plus, I love stories and storytelling. Music has always been an escape for me. I started writing poetry, then added a melody to it as a kid. Making up my own stories and letting my friends read them was always a good time. When I started making music, I was asked to perform for my friends, which lead to talent shows and eventually doing music as a career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am versatile in my music. I adapt to my environment. It may seem cocky or boisterous to some for me to say that, but it’s the truth. There are millions of rappers in the world today. I’ve been working my way through the music industry for several years. I’ve had doors opened, Opportunities present themselves. And doors slammed in my face before I even had a chance to show what I was capable of. That motivated me to be more creative lyrically. I’ve very proud of where I am in my career today. I’m signed to Grim Reality Entertainment. I’m about to go on my second tour. I’ve performed in front of hundreds of people that know who I am, and know my music. But most of all I’m having a blast doing what I love. It took me having thousands of doors closed to find my way to the one that was open.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Just like me, my friends love to eat, listen to good music, have a tasty cigar, and enjoy a good laugh. I would take them to Cielo Stake House to eat. It’s a Four Diamond restaurant that sits on the top floor of the Morongo Casino in Cabazon California. This place has the best steak and wine combinations anyone could imagine. We would have to head to a comedy show next. I have several friends in the comedy industry that perform locally and abroad. We would definitely have to catch one of their show for a night of laughs.
For our music fix, we would find out who was performing that week. We could find a jazz lounge and have a couple of drinks and cigars. We could find a local underground hip-hop show. Or we could head to Las Vegas for some fun on the strip. Disneyland is also a possibility. You can never go wrong with that.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be doing music without the support of my wife. She encourages me to pursue my dream, and continue what my brother and I started before his death. I dedicate my career to my brother. I miss him. I cherish his memory. My wife is my loudest cheerleader. My biggest fan, and my toughest critic. She knows when I’m out of sync and when I’m not giving 110%. She never judges my creativity. She knows that music is my therapy.
Shout out to Mrs. Doesha.
