Hi Allison, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity. I have a genuine love for travel – exploring destinations, investigating cultures, organizing logistics – and I enjoy sharing this love with others. So, when I help my clients discover their ideal travel styles and check items off their bucket lists, I think that enthusiasm shines through. Anyone can book their vacation on the internet. But I’m more than a soulless booking engine. I actually care about my clients’ needs and desires.

What should our readers know about your business?
Novel World Travel is a full-service custom travel planning business. Before I started Novel World Travel, I was a software engineer. I spent close to fifteen years climbing the corporate ladder, working to build a business that I ultimately had no stake in. Now that I own my own business, I feel a sense of freedom. Yes, there’s a lot of responsibility, but there’s also autonomy, the feeling that I have control over the projects I choose to focus on and the culture I choose to cultivate. Plus, I can make the best decisions for my clients without worrying about getting approval from anyone else or dealing with bureaucratic red tape.

To me, there is nothing more exciting than that feeling of stepping off an airplane in a new-to-me country and taking in all the awe-inspiring sights, sounds, and flavors. This world is huge, but this world is also small. And I want to see as much of it as I can in this short life I’ve been given. It’s why I started Novel World Travel – to share that happy feeling with other people, and help them make the most of their time on this earth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a native New Yorker who planted roots here in Encinitas, I love showing friends and family members around my adopted city. The highlight of this area is the beautiful coastline, so I love to drive first-timers into Encinitas from the south via the 101 so they can get a sweeping panorama of the Pacific. There are also some incredible views from the Meditation Gardens, which is a lovely place for a quiet walk. Moonlight Beach is a must-visit for sunbathing in the sand and splashing in the waves, before grabbing a scoop of ice cream at Cali Cream. For nature lovers, we can easily spend a full day at the San Diego Botanical Garden. And a night on the town begins with sunset viewing at Swami’s before grabbing dinner at my favorite Encinitas restaurant, Plumeria.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Emilio. I couldn’t have come this far in my career without his support. No matter what zany idea I come to him with – I wanna quit my six figure job! I want to write a novel! I want to start a travel planning business! – he always, always believes in me.
