We had the good fortune of connecting with Kolette Morehead and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kolette, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important thing behind Hot Koko is authenticity. I strive for my social media content and brand to be an unfiltered platform that’s refreshing for my viewers. Being venerable and open within my brand creates a safe space for my followers to do the same for themselves.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I pick up a camera, I ask “How can I tell a story?” I have a strong passion for people and their lives and for telling them to the world. I believe my art is a form of storytelling through the lens of my camera or interviews on my podcast. I am most proud of the community I have a built-in person and on social media and that people feel comfortable approaching me and that I can help young Women within this process.
What got me where I am today is truly believing in myself and taking risks. It has not been easy by any means to overcome the bullying and negativity over the years. I have been vlogging and making videos since I was 8 years old and have known since that age that this is my path. Being so sure of what I want to pursue at 21 has helped instill confidence within myself and helps me stay focused and block out the outside noise.
I am actively learning the lesson that success doesn’t happen overnight and defining what success is for me. Is success being rich and famous, or is it being a positive light in the world and serving others through my art, and waking up truly happy every day? It’s a daily reminder and lesson for me to have patience with my work and myself.
What I really would like the world to know about Hot Koko and myself, is that you are bigger than what society labels you as. It’s important to my brand and others to spread positivity and run in the pursuit of your dreams. Social media can be a toxic comparing space, but only if you make it that way. Same thing with yourself, your life and world are what you make of it. My biggest encouragement to others is to love themselves and others without anything in return. I believe the world would be a better place with understanding and compassion toward others. I’ll leave you with this, happiness flows where passion grows. Being passionate about others and everything you pour your heart into will make you a stronger and happy individual, and you deserve that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being born and raised in Southern California I’d like to say I know all of the ‘local’ spots. As a die-hard coffee lover, I would start by grabbing the best coffee in Oceanside at Captains Grounds, probably getting a Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk or a Dirty Chai. Cruising into Captains Helm they have the cutest vintage clothes, shoes, and accessories. I spend hours drinking coffee, shopping, and hanging out with friends. Hands down my favorite place in Oceanside! Next up, I would go to lunch at LTH and get the Dirtybird sandwich. Go for the food, but stay for the vibes. It’s an awesome community in a really fun place to hang out. Next, if the surf is good, I usually check the harbor or my favorite surf spot Teramar in Carlsbad. Even if the waves are in good, I loved just watching them all day long in catching a good sunset. after a good Sunset Surf, I love to cruise by the best pizza in Oceanside for their last-hour two-dollar slices. It’s a plus if it’s Wednesday because it’s pint night my friend’s and I‘s favorite day of the week one time we did 10 weeks in a row going to best pizza and participating in pint night. I love a good deal and I also love tacos taco Tuesday is perfect at Primo’s for their $.69 tacos every other day of the week they’re $.99 you’ll find me there pretty often. I love to be wined and dined at the rooftop bars in Oceanside. Cute vibes and always delicious drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like the dedicate this shoutout to my parents. I haven’t always been the easiest to deal with in the pursuit of some of these crazy creative dreams I have. My parents have always been so supportive of whatever ideas come to mind that day or week, and help me every step of the way. I wouldn’t be here without their support, love, and guidance!
