Meet Carey Scott | Actor / Director / Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carey Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think there are three most important factors to success in show business. One is never giving up. I saw a panel cartoon once that showed a man digging in a tunnel. He was exhausted and tired swinging his axe. In the last panel he gives up and walks away…but you can see the other side of the tunnel. One more swing of the axe and he would have unleashed thousands of diamonds. That’s show business. You can’t give up. There is so much competition. Sometimes, literally, thousands of actors vying for the same role. You can audition a million times but the million and one could be the one where your life changes. Obviously, you’ll never work if you quit. Number two is hard work. Constantly studying, reading, working on your craft. And number three is passion. Honest, true, genuine love and passion for the art and craft of acting. Aside from my human relationships – it’s the love of my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What am I most proud of? I think that I’ve managed to work consistently in show business for the past 40 years. It’s been a combination of hard work and discipline but I also love what I do. Passion is a big part of it. There are films and TV shows I’m very proud of. There’s also a few films and TV shows I hope no one ever sees!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would book a nice beachfront suite at the Hotel del Coronado. Dinner at a nice Italian place in Little Italy. (Secretly, Filippi’s is still my favorite) All the beaches, La Jolla Cove, etc. Theatre at the Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse or anywhere really. There’s lots of good theatre in San Diego. The Zoo, Balboa Park, all the obvious places!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are way too many people to give proper credit and recognition too. But a few that come to mind…first my mother who has always supported my dreams one hundred percent. My aunt and uncle as well, who taught me a lot in the beginning. My first acting teacher in high school – Pat Ponich. An incredible person who gave me the encouragement and belief that I could succeed. My major mentor – the legendary acting coach, Stella Adler. A major force in my life. And currently, my wife, who is my biggest fan. There are so, so many more.
