We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadine Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nadine, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is that I kept trying even when I did not receive the response that I wanted. At first when I began freelance modeling I worked for merch exchange and exposure. Even though It was a challenging task for me to attend certain photoshoots I did everything I needed to do. My determination will always be a factor in my success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been modeling now for 4 years, I am excited to announce that I recently just got signed to Envy Los Angeles. I love being a curve model because I get to experience so many new things while representing body positivity. I got to where I am at by using my Instagram platform to further my modeling career. It was definitely difficult to get to where I am at now, because it took a lot of time and patience. While trying to pursue modeling as a new curve model I had to overcome a lot of challenges… I began when I was a college student and not having the financial stability to attend certain photoshoots really made it difficult for me. I did everything in my power to make it happen, whether it was having to leave class early, borrow my friends car, or even use my last few bucks to pay for gas. Thanks to my determination I have been blessed with meeting so many new amazing people. I have learned many things while pursuing this career. I learned that even though you get a couple no’s all you need is that one yes. Having a positive mindset is everything when trying to pursue a career where you need to network a lot. Apart from being a curve model, I have been a swim instructor for about ten years. Doing this privately on the side has given me the chance to be my own boss and learn to be responsible. I love that I get to teach kids how to be water safe! It is something that I have been doing for so long, and it comes so natural to me now. I graduated from Cal State University Los Angeles with my Bachelors in Social Work, and did a one year internship with kids with disabilities. I am now working as a behavioral therapist with kids with autism. Having this as my job really helps me with many things in my life. I use a lot of my skills form behavioral therapy when I teach swimming lessons. I believe that is another reason as to why I am a great swim instructor. I want the world to know that nothing has ever came easy to me, so if you are reading this and you have a dream you want to pursue the sooner you start the better. If I would have let those obstacles stop me or tear me down. I wouldn’t have had all the amazing experiences I have today.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best time ever would have to start off by eating at the Original pantry cafe In downtown Los Angeles. After eating their delicious coffee and pancakes, we would drive off to LA Live to ride bird scooters. Hanging out and painting at Vista Hermosa Park would be a must. Having the LA skyline right in front of you is a nice view. I grew up in LA County so Going to see the LA skyline especially while there is a nice sunset is my favorite. Going on a nice boba run at bearology Pasadena would be in the plans for sure. As Well as stopping to buy some authentic asian food At Mama Lu’s in Monterey Park. Old town Pasadena is always fun to go to, seeing all the cute shops and photo op places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate a special shoutout to my best friend kaitlin, she inspired me to start my instagram and to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Thanks to her I had the chance to make a lot of fun new content that stood out to brands. I also want to dedicate a shoutout to all of the individual businesses that had interest in me to represent their brand! Rolita Couture based out of Las Vegas NV, was the first festival brand that reached out to me for a photoshoot that was a collab with lunatics based out of burbank CA. Rave Wonderland based out of Downtown Los Angeles and Iheartraves based out of Anaheim CA, gave me the privilege to attend Music festivals while representing their brand. I’m excited to say that Freedom Rave Wear based out of Vista CA has given me multiple opportunities to model for their brand for many festival launches. I wouldn’t have had the experience and confidence to continue being a curve model without any of them. The love and encouragement I felt during the photoshoots inspired me to attend casting calls for modeling agencies in Los Angeles.
