Meet Louise Houghton | TV Host / Live events MC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Louise Houghton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Having grown up always wanting to act, I found myself, in my early 20’s, hosting an extreme sports show! I often found that whichever path, be it acting or hosting, that I was more relaxed about I would book more work and so my career zigzagged between these two pretty often in my 20’s. I loved the variety and not having to choose but after booking a regular broadcasting position on a German network I made the decision to let acting go for a bit to focus on that position. Before long TV hosting, flowed into voiceover work and being an MC and event host for award shows, press launches and gala dinners around the world. I am at total surrender to the flow of it these days and now I find myself in LA having picked up acting again, I love the irony of being booked as a newscaster – which has happened more than once! I do really love when I get to work with companies focused on sustainability or making an impact that benefits our environment. I am passionate about leaving this world a better place for our children and enjoy being able to use my skills to contribute in any way I can. I set up my own production company called ECODA MEDIA in 2019 which aims to raise awareness of global issues and shed some light on those making a difference.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to be in nature. I grew up by the British seaside and that is what drew me to LA – this opportunity to have nature on your doorstep but still be in a city for work. So if friends are visiting, I first have to take them to the mountains. I travel a lot with work and going hiking really grounds me, helps with jet lag and brings me back to centre. There are so many I like in Topanga and the Santa Monica mountains but anything that is under the trees would be my preference so I can have the feeling of being lost in the woods! The beach is also always a big draw, whether it is watching volleyball, doing some Acro yoga or just chilling in the sun I like to get down there at least once a week.
If I have the chance though, I do love to share my spiritual practice that I have found here in LA with anyone who visits me and that could include anything from yoga, sound baths and meditation to joining me at my full moon Womens circle.
As for places to eat – I am a member of thesupperclubinc.com and with that membership I get to experience new restaurants all over LA once or twice a month with a brilliant group of likeminded professionals. It saves me researching the latest hotspot and gives me the opportunity to just dress up and enjoy some delicious food and drink – though casually cooking with friends at home is also high on my list of priorities as we get more time to connect.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first person in my life who really helped and supported me in making my childhood dream a reality was my drama teacher, Mary Lord. I trained with her since the age of 5 but I grew up dyslexic and struggled to sight read. In my profession you have to be able to sight read, for castings, for the prompter, voiceovers or cue cards and so Mrs Lord, as I called her, would make me read every week and told me to volunteer to do so in school. I hated it and would get so embarrassed at how I would stumble but I am so very grateful now because I learnt how to read off the cuff and learnt how to do it well – even if I do say so myself! She was right, I really couldn’t do my job without this skill. The other person who I was say was at the base of my career ladder is my Dad! He is very social and at a Business Link conference he met producer Russ Malkin, who at the time was running an extreme sports production company. I had just left university and so between them it was suggested I went to do work experience with Russ. Those 2 weeks turned into a job that gave me so much experience of how to make TV and ultimately catapulted me into my hosting career with the FIA European Drag Racing Championships being my first ever TV gig!
