We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Tropicana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy, what do you attribute your success to?
The thing that makes Tropicana successful is the members. They are outgoing, friendly and are proud of representing the best golf club in California.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I haven’t done anything remarkable or life saving but I have brought joy and life long friendships to people and to me thats important. I took a system that was already in place and opened the door to a demographic that wasn’t sure how to get involved. I try to create an environment where you’re not praised for your physical skill but more for how you interact with others, your attitude toward the game of golf and how you can improve someones experience on the golf course.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had just a few days to show someone what places are near and dear to my heart, I’d take them in a 54 Chevy up PCH all the way to Pasatiempo Golf Course in the Santa Cruz area. Play 18’and really enjoy the nature of the area. Then we’d head to the Coachella Valley to experience the greatest golf playground in the world. The So Cal history of yesteryear is strong in those parts. All throughout this trip we’d try all the delicacies that So Cal has to offer. Chilaquiles from a hole in the wall Mexican spot. Cuban Ropa Vieja from Havana Club, French Style Filet Mignon from Tasty Garden and a tupperware full of my wife’s chilled homemade Peruvian Ceviche to snack on as we drive. Don’t despair, cocktails will be plenty, Micheladas and Casa Amigos tequila will flow like the Tuna from Tijuana or however that saying goes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Every time I feel like taking a day off or cutting a corner, I remember that my grandfather came to this country with 2 young kids, a wife and 2 dollars in his pocket so that I could live in a free country. I plan to give my grandchildren the same opportunity. Fight on!
