We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachyl Khoury and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachyl, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
In regards to the work I get to do within the wedding industry, the people I get the opportunity to work with and for are truly what brings me joy! The excitement and kindness I experience from working with brides, their bridal parties, and other fellow artists is unmatched. Over the years, it’s become so evident how fulfilling it is to creatively style hair, while working with such amazing people on such a special day!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think of my style as a combination of both “polished” and “undone”. Braids and soft, romantic curls are my sweet spot! With every person who sits in my chair, I aim to find a perfect blend of their inspiration to create their dream bridal hairstyle. Every wedding party is a new blank canvas, with each person having their own unique inspiration!
Early on in my life, I found myself experimenting with new hair styles, often helping friends and family style their hair for events like prom or special occasions – so the decision to pursue bridal hairstyling really came quite naturally! I find so much excitement in the challenge that comes with starting from scratch, creating a look that leaves each person feeling confident and beautiful! Although it took many years of encouragement from friends and family, I finally decided to start a business as a freelance bridal hair stylist! The people in my corner could not have been more supportive and I’m excited to continue to grow within the bridal hair industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
North County, San Diego has been my home for most of my life! On any given day, you can find me with an iced chai from Back Rock Coffee, making my way through local Thrift Shops searching for home decor, enjoying a wood fired pizza from Blade 1936 and ending the night with a dog walk at the beach during sunset. My husband and I feel so grateful to live in Oceanside and enjoy all that this beach town has to offer – to say we feel lucky to live here is an understatement!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom was the first person who taught me how to use a curling iron. She has been a hairstylist for over 30+ years and I would not be where I am today without her! I also want to recognize Kayti Schmitz (@hairbykayti) for guiding me and encouraging me to pursue bridal hairstyling! I am continually inspired by how much support I feel from fellow artists within the industry.
