Meet Joseni Romero | Nail Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseni Romero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseni, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. Implementing my passion for creating and designing into a form of income was nearly a dream come true. My whole life I heard people talking down on people that pursue creative careers of any kind. Many believe there is enough artist in the world and it is an overly saturated market. As someone who was near to giving up on my passion just to fit the narrative of what society wants people to do I decided to pursue this career out of love for what I do but also to prove those wrong. I worked hard for what I have now and will continue working hard to do what I love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creating artwork at a much smaller scale definitely posed to be a challenge for me. Not only did I have to practice my craft I had to get people to want to come to me as a beginner in order to even practice. I started with only the knowledge of youtube on how to do nails but not the business aspect of marketing and getting my name out there while I also try to get better. I would say I learned that you’re more likely t gain the support of a stranger than from those you expect it from. I had to learn that I needed to respect my time and boundaries as well as learn how to balance work with my personal life which if I’m going, to be honest, is still a learning process but that’s what an entrepreneur e journey is supposed to be like. It may not be easy but there’s no such thing as small accomplishment’s in my eyes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely start the day out with brunch at Kono’s Cafe in Pacific Beach and walk the boardwalk after. I would then go to Seaport to walk and look through the shops with many photo opportunities of course. Before the sun starts to set We would then go to Mount Soledad to watch the sun go down with a beautiful view of the city and beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to my family, friends, and those who supported me and believed in me even when I didn’t. I wouldn’t have been where I am now without the support of those around me and I couldn’t thank you all enough!
