We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Vuong Tobin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly it was a family thought process. My dad, Phat Vuong has owned restaurants in San Diego for years. He saw a great opportunity in Dumpling Inn and brought the idea to me and my sister. We bought the restaurant together and run the day to day operations as a family.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our story and our mantra is “from our family to yours.” Our employees are at the core of how we are sucessful. Without their dedication and time away from their families we would not be able to open our doors. Many of them have been with us since teenagers and are now married with children. These 4 walls are our home and my team is my family. When you are inside of these 4 walls your are our guests and part of the family. My team and their relationships with each other are what I am most proud of. So truly when you are here it is “from our family to yours.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cocktails spots: 52 remedies and raised by wolves. Sushi from Juichi. Mexican food from Tacos el Gordo. Indian food from Curry and More. Tidepools and sunsets from sunset cliffs. Snorkeling with leopard sharks in La Jolla.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout goes to my sister Priscila Vuong. I truly could not run this business successfully without her. She is my back up, my right hand, and my confidant. Though working with a family member especially a sibling has its downs but it certainly has its ups. Working together everyday has brought us closer together and really strengthened our relationship.
