Meet Sarah Schlosberg | Travel Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Schlosberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what do you attribute your success to?
Early on I was most interested in travel and experiencing new cultures. Photography really just became the method I used to document these adventures. Stepping outside my comfort zone and taking risks – like buying one way tickets abroad with a single backpack and no itinerary – pushed me to develop skills that I may have never considered had I went about my business with set expectations. Initially I admit, I was shooting with my iPhone without true intentions of becoming a professional photographer. It wasn’t until I was in Indonesia off the beaten tourist path, shooting Volcano’s, that I felt it was time to upgrade to my first DSLR.
With that – I would say follow the things that really make you happy, start with where you are and what you already have, trust your intuition and the skills necessary to achieve that success will naturally find you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I can share my stories and the places I have been through my lens; it’s how I express myself. I love selling my prints in my Etsy Shop to inspire others to go out and see the world! I believe I have a unique eye for landscape photography that I want to share with others. Every print in my shop has a crazy adventure behind it.
Taking that first step and buying a one way ticket abroad to solo-backpack made me understand how life is what we make it. Along the way, I realized I was happy – despite minor setbacks – and this lifestyle was a completely practical and realistic option as long as I committed and wanted it to remain so.
Photography then transitioned from a passive hobby into a full blown career path however, this was by no means overnight or easy. Breaking out of societal norms has unique challenges that are impossible to prepare for. But, when you prioritize the things you love and follow what makes you happy, it is all worth it.
When Covid-19 hit, I felt uninspired and blocked to continue this way of life. However, it gave me this unique opportunity to slow down, examine everything I had already accomplished and learn the skills necessary to continue on. Looking through past travel photos, I honed my editing style which kept me inspired and looking forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend visited San Diego we hit the ground running. That evening, after a long flight, we took it easy and caught the sunset at Sunset Cliffs.
Day one we grabbed sandwiches and ate lunch in Balboa Park. This spot is great because local artist come, paint live and sell work.
La Jolla Cove is a great spot or check out North Park for food and shopping. We enjoyed lunch but our favorite shop was Pigment on 30th Street.
However, for us, the best part about San Diego is the landscape. Driving in perfect weather with great music and company made for the best memories.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely not be where I am today without the kindness, encouragement and support of many people along the way.
My closest friends that have been with me from the beginning always were there to remind me with any success, failure is part of the journey and inevitable.
As I continued growing and networking within the San Diego community, I met countless of other entrepreneurs and creatives who were so humble and willing to share their skills it motivated and excited me for what is yet to come.
Most of all, my photography high school teacher, Mr. Merchant, introduced me to film photography and photoshop in a way that was so engaging and interesting. I can trace the start of this creative journey back to his teachings.
