We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Marie and Carlee Spath Founders of The Switch Suites and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa Marie and Carlee Spath, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Carlee and I first met at our previous job together. It was there that we were cultured into the elements of luxury with a high-end level of service provided for clients. However, as much as we loved what we were offering, we wanted to create something more inclusive and inviting for every type of client. Together we wanted our business to be a resource to the healing community and a skincare sanctuary. Switching up the competitive culture to an open and supportive community is the core of The Switch Suites’ mission.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We focus on the healing powers of touch, manual lymphatic draining, sculpting, and facial massage. We start each facial this way before integrating machines or technologies.

We are most proud to have created a safe haven for coworkers and clients. A place built on the foundation of friendship where we can all grow and succeed together.

We got here by choosing a business partner with the same drive and dedication to the craft. We planned everything together; if we both didn’t love it, we weren’t doing it. Challenges come and go; sometimes, you must accept them as a learning experience and continue.

Lessons:
-Every client should feel like a VIP.
-Word of mouth is the most powerful type of marketing.
-Have a list for everything!
-Inventory, to-dos, ideas, goals, and notes to stay organized.

We want the world to know that our hearts and energy combined are what we provide to our clients and community. We serve at a high luxury level of service and strive always to grow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Book a room for a few nights at Humphreys Half Moon Bay. The pool is perfect for hotel hangs and the rooms have a great view of the city and our beautiful bay. They also have a music venue, so if you’re lucky you can also catch a concert during your stay.

Have brunch with a view at The Fish Market in seaport village. The smoked salmon and oysters are my favorite, and the Bloody Mary’s never disappoint!

Hangout and walk around our iconic Balboa Park or La Jolla shores beach.

Eat and drink with Frank at Swan Bar for a great burgers and cocktails. If you’re an espresso martini lover, start with that.

The Carte Hotel in Little Italy has a great rooftop view and bar. It is the best place to catch our beautiful sunsets!

Finish the trip at the Switch Suites. We offer self care at its finest! You can start with acupuncture, transition to the luxurious facial or sugaring room, and finish with an IV drip, all in the same day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
LeClaire skincare was the first of our suite-mates to start her business and spark our imaginations. Meghan painted the picture of what was possible when you put your heads together to accomplish a dream. As friends and first-time business owners, we have grown and learned together. Leclaire Skincare’s second location is in The Switch Suites with us, and we couldn’t be happier to share space with her.
We would also love to shout out to the owner of Rewind Skin. Juliet was the cherry on top when the switch suites opened our doors. She brings her skincare style and makeup talents to The Switch. We got to help guide her with getting her business off the ground, and everything came full circle having her here with us.

Lastly, Dr. Monica Foitzik. She is an acupuncturist, healer, and one of the most selfless, talented business owners in the suites. We like to joke that she’s the witch doctor around here. There’s nothing that any of us come to her with that she can’t help remedy. We integrate her with our clients, and she works with them from the inside out.
