Meet Peter Nguyen | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Peter Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Peter, what are you inspired by?
I look at many things when it comes to being inspired. Other photographers I admire are main inspiration. It’s interesting to see what they shoot, how they shoot it and how they go about using light. Websites like pinterest, Flickr, fstoppers to name a few are good resources to look at as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At the moment, I’m most proud in pursuing film photography. It’s much different than digital. Film takes a bit more time as there is a limited number of photos, so shot selection matters a great deal. I started out portrait photography using a website to find models. I had no portrait work whatsoever so I took some chances and contacted models who were willing to do a shoot. It was a hit and miss with that route so I ended up getting some friends to shoot with to get a bit more experience working with people. I moved on to contacting models on Instagram and have been doing so till this day. A lesson I learned and am still learning is to get a model to feel comfortable when taking their photograph. If the model is at ease then the pictures translate quite well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a tough one. There are so many places to visit in Southern California. Best beaches I’ve found to visit are El Matador in Malibu, Crescent Bay in Laguna, and Windansea in San Diego. I’ve seen the best sunsets ever at these locations. There are many others but these are just some. The definite places to visit if in Los Angeles are The Getty, The Getty Villa, The Last Bookstore, Disney Concert Hall, Arts District, Venice, Santa Monica, Abbot Kinney, and Huntington Library Arboretum. Each has their own vibe which I love. These are just a few of the many places Southern California has to offer. As for food I’m a big fan of Kazunori handroll sushi. It’s my go to place to eat in Los Angeles. Little Tokyo has some great ramen restaurants as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is no real one person. It’s mainly the people (friends and fellow photographers) I surround myself with to keep me pushing forward in photography. Models, who have shot with me, deserve all the credit for their amazing skill and talent. I wouldn’t be here without them.
