Meet Shelby Strother | Astrologist and Psychic

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Strother and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think about what kinds of risks I have taken in my career, there is a laundry list.
I can’t help but think about how I left the entire life back in the East Coast, my friends, and my family and decided to take this venture out here in San Diego during the pandemic. I didn’t work for a year and spent the entire year building my business plan and model for my spiritual business.
During the process, my mom was battling a terminal illness and I had a lot of other things going on and factors that I think would’ve kept most people from taking this great of a risk. Not only is California one of the most expensive states to live in, it’s also one of the hardest to become a small business owner in. I struggled to get seen as reputable and I only had a short amount of time to be able to be sustainable, but the start up success for me was mind-boggling looking back on it and I’m still trying to wrap my head around about how lucky I am. I only can give that up to my connection with my higher source and maybe just some good old fashion good luck.
I had actually tried to launch several businesses before this and just kept hitting walls and obstacles in blockages that this was actually my third different type of business model. I guess third times the charm.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a psychic and I think that’s pretty unique within itself.
I kind of developed these gifts from childhood lineage and I was able to help a lot of people when I was just a bartender giving advice or giving visions of what I saw on other people and healing others as a child from pain.
I guess that my greatest gift has been the ability of foresight, knowing what someone’s highest potential is and then it always drove me to want to heal other people. There’s really no professional route when it comes to becoming a psychic. You either have the ability or you don’t.
But I would argue to say that everyone has a really strong intuition that they often turn off and forget to listen to. I think the thing that I’m most proud of right now is that I put myself through challenging astrology courses and history of astrology just to be able to better reach my clientele and on a deeper level give them something more tangible that they can take with them after our sessions.
I think that the greatest challenge that I have overcome is coming to terms with my upsetting of societal norms; having friends and strangers alike not understand or make me feel like I don’t belong or am a misfit. But I truly believe in what I am doing, that my work truly helps people. And I will continue to persevere.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When someone comes to friends visiting me, I’m all about experiences.
Constantly I find myself looking up unique spots.
For a drink, we may step back in time with the local speakeasy Raised by Wolves.
I’m a bit of a self proclaimed foodie, so I’m always looking for unique restaurants, such as Juniper and Ivy.
I think CA sells itself on outdoor activities. So we usually try to go to beaches and breweries that aren’t usually crowded with tourists.
My favorite is imperial beach but I can’t help myself from taking in the sunset at the cliffs as often as I can.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a shadow of a doubt I have to shout out my bosses Ana and Kyle Suesan of Verde in little Italy.
Kyle posted on craigslist looking for a psychic and found me looking for a job and his storefront provided me a location to be able to have a stable income while I was looking to start my business.
I still to this day work part time for Kyle because I enjoy his work ethic, the way the store is set up, the way he models businesses and I’m constantly learning after him.
When you’re looking for a boss I think the most fundamental role is finding a flexible one who lets you live your human experience (taking vacations / taking time off when you don’t feel well) and holds your job. A boss who keeps you hired even when you’re not in the best mood. He always has a good story to talk about; I don’t feel like I go to work when I go to work I feel like I go to my happy place.
Their store front is located in Little Italy and they sell metaphysical jewelry and crystals with intentions that are ethically and locally sourced with conscious energy so I would go ahead and give them a check out if you could.
Right underneath the little Italy sign in San Diego next to Pop Pop’s ice cream is Verde.
