We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Responsiveness.

That may seem like an oversimplification, but I have come to believe it is the single greatest contribution to my brand’s success. While we receive praise for the quality of our investigations, the most common compliment by far is, “You are so responsive”. It is surprising how many investigation firms don’t answer the phone or an email in a timely fashion. Building trust with clients in my industry means not making them wait. Being an amazing investigator is only 20% while responsiveness is the other 80%. The larger lesson here is to pay attention to the most important needs of the client and deliver, every time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Many people have images of Magnum PI the 1980’s PI who lived in a Hawaiian mansion and drove a Ferrari. While there are brief moments when you feel like this, for the most part I am less guns and fast cars and much more an information broker. An effective PI knows where to find difficult to locate information. That’s the hardest part about becoming a well-rounded PI, knowing where to find the information is stored.

A big learning lesson is about staying power. Being successful in business is like a war of attrition. If you are showing up and satisfying the needs of your customers eventually you are the last man standing because your competition falls away. Find a business, learn it inside and out and stick with it for the long haul. Don’t bounce around looking for long because your time is finite. Staying power will create your success.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
After leaving the police department I worked at a BMW motorcycle dealership while I was going to back to college. My mentor there, Dale Johnson, would always say after selling a motorcycle, “Now Cameron, we never want to rest on our laurels”. It was his way of saying you never have something in the bag. There is always room to improve and make things better. And if you don’t, that’s when the competition will get you.
