Meet Jose Martinez | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jose, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think in my case I have always been a risk taker. You cannot be afraid to fail. I have taken many risks in my life in different areas and thankfully there has been more positive outcomes than negative. You always learn more from your mistakes and I have made many and will continue to do so. I learned about risk taking from my mom at an early age. She would always get involved in different business ventures even if she didn’t understand them well. She would always tell me to try new things and not to be afraid.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We run a Hibachi or Teppanyaki catering service. You choose the place we will cook and entertain right in front of you. Our main focus is on customer service.
We pride ourselves in always exceeding expectations from our patrons. We use the highest quality ingredients and make sure our dishes are cooked to perfection. We started our business in San Diego about 3 years ago with the mentorship of our good friend Erick who had created and had been running the concept of Hibachi at home a few years prior in a different area.
We took the leap and branched off to focus mainly in San Diego county.
What sets us apart is that my business partner Albert and myself have had more than 15+ years experience working on the hospitality industry. We where able to bring that experience to our catering service and teach that to our new employees.
It has not been easy at all as we are learning that running your own business takes time and dedication if you want to make it successful.
We love what we do and we love our community and cant wait to meet you at our next event.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting I would definitely take them to a place called La Vecindad Neighborhood Tacos. It is hands down the best authentic Mexican food place in San Diego. The Micheladas and Margaritas are to die for. From there we would go for a walk to El Prado in Balboa Park to check out some of the museums or head out to any of the beaches in San Diego.
I would finish the night by going to a roof top bar which are some of the best in California.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom Angeles receives all credit. She was a single mom raising 5 kids at the time. Working 3 jobs to support us.
