Meet Jasmine Agudelo | Taking Risk to Reach Your Goal

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Agudelo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is something that is necessary to pursue any goal. Risk is like a bump in the road, when you come to it you have three choices. One you can stop and give up because you think it is not worth it. Two you can turn around because you are not ready to take that risk or need to reevaluate your goal. Then there are three you can go over because you don’t know what is down the road but you’re willing to take that risk right now. I have taken risks in my own life and in my career path. I risked leaving Photography school for a new path and putting myself out there on Instagram as a doll life photographer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I was five years old I have always wanted to be an artist. I painted, drawed, anything that involved art I did as a child but it wasn’t until my godmother took me out and gave me a camera that I fell in love with photography. After high school I went to college for photography. Once there I realized I didn’t have what it takes to be a photographer at their standards so I chose to drop out. I left art for business school to pursue a degree so I can open my own business one day. My family and my boyfriend at the time still pushed me to go back to photography because I was talented. So I started taking photos of objects, flowers, and places. I eventually decided to work at a studio for a season because I wasn’t good at photographing live subjects and events. I feel like it was a weakness for me. During my time there I did learn new skills but came out confirming live subjects are not my strong suit and probably will not pursue that path. Last year I started up an Instagram page for my photography and focused purely on my doll Daisy Duck for In Real Life shots. I was not the only one with this Disney Nuimos collection and was not the first to Instagram focus on them. What made me stand out from the others was capturing each post as if Daisy was posting her life experiences. From selfies to point of view shots. My Instagram is still small but with its continued growth I have big plans such as videos and merchandise in the future. Taking out your dolls around town is a growing trend for adults, not just children. It’s easy to get started with public platforms and the option to make it a professional account you just need to know how to market on that platform. So I encourage everyone who wants to put themselves out there to start small and make a name on social media and see where it takes you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Places I love to go and are fun spots to visit are Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. Feeling outdoorsy, take a walk or hike up the Chino Hills State Park. I love eating out at local fast food places and getting a drink at Starbucks. If I can’t travel I love exploring my backyard here in Chino Hills.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to do a shoutout to my grandma who told me to pursue a career in photography after taking photos of her birthday flowers long ago. She thought my photos looked professional and said that I have an eye for photography. She has supported me my whole life from raising me to supporting me through school. She has always pushed me to go after my dreams and continues to do so.
I have to give a shout out to my godmother Sarah as well because if it wasn’t for her I would have never fallen in love with photography. She gave me my first point and shoot camera. She also taught me her skills as a photographer. She took me on a few trips where I got more experience with nature photography from ghost towns to Yosemite. These two women along with the rest of my family have been my inspiration and support all my life.
Thank you Grandma, Sarah, and Family.
