We had the good fortune of connecting with John Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what principle do you value most?
Integrity is the core value that matters most to me. “The Body Groomers”, a head-to-toe grooming salon for men, was founded on the concept of doing the right thing for the customer. The customer always comes first. We treat everyone as an individual. In today’s world, every person is dealing with their own unique issues. To provide help, we provide an honest, tailored, and positive experience for every client. One of “The Body Groomers” goals is for every man to “look good, smell good, and feel great!” In achieving this goal, we raise the self-esteem of individuals and better enable them to address the negativity and adversity that they might be facing in their lives, one step at a time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, The Body Groomers, is the first head to toe grooming salon that uses NO wax, laser or chemical treatments. We only use detachable blades, giving our customers the closest trim possible. Every blade used is cleaned and sterilized after every service. All our clients can rest assured they are getting the best service possible. Our slogan is we “Turn Cavemen into Modern Men”.

We pride ourselves on giving our customers the best products available like Murad and Bosley. The Murad Environmental shield line provides UVA and UVB sun protection and extreme moisturizing we all need. Many men want to remove the hair on their back but want to keep the hair on their heads, this is where Bosley products come in. Both Murad and Bosley products were created by medical professionals and backed by decades of science.

It has not been easy getting to the business to where it is today. I grew up in a Navy household that moved all around the country. It was challenging to make new friends and adapt to a new school environment. After college, I landed a job as a Marine Mammal Trainer supporting the U.S. Navy. It was a great job but unfortunately I suffered a career ending injury that has left me 20% disabled. I was pretty devastated but it became an opportunity to reinvent myself and start my own business. My past has shaped me as to how I view the human experience. The business world can be a very intimidating space but having a can-do attitude with a positive outlook can help you overcome obstacles and cause customers to gravitate towards your energy. My goal in opening The Body Groomers was to provide a positive space for others to come and experience something fast, rewarding and painless.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, he would be one lucky guy. I have been blessed to live in San Diego for the majority of my life and the best part of San Diego is Coronado. I would take my friend bike riding all over the town from the San Diego Bay to the Pacific Ocean. The bike is the best way to get around Coronado because the weather is always great. We would spend the majority of the week at the beach, which is consistently ranked in the top 10 worldwide. If we get hungry there are wonderful places to eat, all along Orange Ave in Coronado from the Hotel Del to the Ferry Landing. One night we would take the ferry across the bay to catch a San Diego Padre game at PETCO Park. After the week was over, he would not want to leave this paradise.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout is dedicated to my family and friends. I have come along way from when I began my journey to start my own business and making The Body Groomers a reality. My family and friends have been supportive of me the whole time. They were there for me from day one. They cheered me on while I went to Cosmetology and Barber schools for 12 hours a day. I was devastated when i had to put my dream on hold when the Pandemic hit, turning everything upside down, but my family and friends continued to be positive and encouraging. Now, that my shop is open, they are regular customers when I thought no one would come. Family and friends are like super glue, once they attach, they never let go!
