Meet Hatem Abou-Sayed | Aesthetic plastic surgeon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hatem Abou-Sayed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hatem, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been interested in left brain right brain activities. Plastic surgery combines the analytical and academic side of the brain in assessing situations and developing algorithmic treatment plans, while it satisfies the right brain interest in design and creativity. I also enjoy using my hands and having immediate impact on people. I am also a musician and I believe musicianship improves my focus and dexterity for surgery while also providing an outlet for relaxation and further creative pursuit.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a boutique plastic surgery and medspa business. We have a niche specialty in breast implant removal and revision breast and body contouring surgery, while also doing face lifts, liposuction, and male plastic surgery procedures. I was in practice in South Florida where I refined many of the techniques I use and I expanded my business opportunities into healthcare technologies that are synergistic with what I do as a practicing surgeon. I have helped innovate in plastic surgery software and medical devices as well as skin care lines that we have coming out soon. I’ve learned that self-confidence and self-reliance are critical to business success, but you also must have humility. Great products and services are not delivered by individuals in a vacuum, they require great teams.
At Tim Sayed MD, we pride ourselves in treating patients like we would expect to be treated and our motto is “Aesthetics Done Right.” That motto means that we do everything we can to deliver excellent service and results to patients. I am not perfect but I am an honest and ethical physician first and foremost. My technology background allows me to marry leading platforms, devices and approaches with a caring and compassionate bedside technique.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an avid music lover so I would see if there were shows going on at the Belly Up or Humphreys. I’d recommend dinner with a water view in La Jolla or Del Mar, maybe a spa day at Rancho Valencia. My wife and I enjoy taking our kids to the zoo and safari park, Legoland, the Birch Aquarium, and the New Children’s Museum and supporting these great organizations locally.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe the foundations of my success to my parents, who came to this country as Ivy League graduate students and made incredible sacrifices to provide me and my brother with academic and social opportunities. I am indebted to my loving and supportive wife, and my ambitions are currently driven by a desire to expand the opportunities available to my amazing children while also remembering to strike the proper work/life balance.
