We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystin Krebs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystin, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I believe that being a problem solver is the most valuable asset to any situation, no matter what industry. To be a problem solver you need transparency, organization systems, and strategic planning. You need an outside view on what’s happening internally, and to be creative, time sensitive, and both a team player and a project manager all at the same time in order to solve a problem.

When someone wants to work with me, they are looking for a solution to a problem they have, or think they have. When hiring an interior designer to work on your home, there is usually an issue with the existing home. Perhaps it doesn’t flow well, there’s not enough space to function properly, or the space just doesn’t feel inspiring.

As we all have been staying home for longer than we likely ever have before over the last couple years, it’s even more important now to have a space that flows, functions, and feels inspiring. So as an Interior Designer, I help my clients by being a problem solver, and addressing these concerns with an outside view on what’s happening inside the house.

It’s important to know the details of every day to day life. Though it might not seem relevant or important to those who live within the home, it’s important to me, with an outside view to fully understand how the inside of the home works. For instance, does someone work from home? If so, is there a designated area for that? Within that space, what are the current paint points? By gathering this information, I’m able to create a plan that is custom tailored to client, and therefore become the problem solver by using creative and quick thinking to create solutions.

I believe that hiring an interior designer should not be scary, stressful, or cause you a headache. A designer’s role is to be stress-relieving and act as a guide for you through your home project- the problem solver. My goal is to be a resource for my clients, to share as much knowledge as I can, so you are prepared to take on your home with confidence and ease.

What should our readers know about your business?
Krystin Krebs Interiors is a full service interior design studio that specializes in interior remodels and efficient space planning. Our design approach is a bit different, we first start out by calculating the dimensions of each piece needed. This ensures everything is the right size and shape for each room we design.

It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today, in fact it look many long hours, working weekends and nights to build up my business. I spent countless hours thinking “should I do this? Should I keep going? What if it doesn’t work?” But I’ve always been driven and determined to complete a task, and building this business was no small task!

Throughout my entire life, I’ve been the kind of person who will likely be the first to take a risk, and if I fail, I try again. Failure doesn’t scare me. But not trying does. Not risking it all to see what could happen, means I would be stuck, and I can’t stay stuck for long. I’d die inside if I couldn’t move forward. Even if that means being kicked backward a few times. I just can’t sit still.

As I have done with my business, I also do with my clients- I don’t give up. If one thing doesn’t work, I try something else. At first, it’s like throwing darts at a dart board in the dark. But with every dart thrown, the lights get turned up a little. And each time, the target becomes more and more clear. I don’t consider each throw of the dart a failure, I consider it refinement- we are progressing slowly to the final goal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would check out all the best places to eat in town, the best places with views, and the things that make this city special. I would stay away from the tourist traps, and instead drive around town showing them the different neighborhoods, and giving a little mini history and “fun-fact” lesson along the way.

– Bali Hai for cocktails and the view
– Meshugga Shack for coffee and witty conversation with some of the nicest baristas
– Cloak & Petal for cocktails and sushi (with a walking tour of Little Italy)
– Ironside for appetizers and oysters
– Ketch for seafood and the view
– Lola 55 for some of the most delicious and unique tacos ever
– Any one of the many speak easys (Raised by Wolves being one of my favorites)
– Any one of the many Tiki Bars (I love a good tiki bar!)
– Take a sunset boat cruise (for views of the city, and hopefully a dolphin or two!)
– Drive through North Park, Kensington, Mission Bay, PB, OB, La Jolla, and Downtown to get a sense of the city and the different pockets of lifestyles.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
