Meet Danny Aon | Events DJ and MC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Aon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say that I believe the most important factor in the success of my business has been having an unwavering confidence that as long as I always provide a great service, people will eventually notice. Even though there are many other factors that contribute to being successful in my type of business, that is the value that helped me get to where I am today. In the first few years of starting my business, I had moments when I got frustrated and disappointed, and when I would lose out to other businesses, even though I knew I provided better services than they did. The confidence that eventually people notice you if you always do good work really helped me through.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Aon Events, and we provide DJ, MC, Sound, Lighting, Live Sound, and Photo Booth Services to events and weddings in San Diego. I believe that what sets us apart from other similar companies is that we are all DJs first and foremost, as opposed to hosts or emcees that also play music. That might sound odd, but that focus on music and mixing is where I saw an opening (or opportunity) for my business in San Diego. Many of the DJ companies (prior to us getting started) were primarily hosts and emcees, and didnt really mix music or bring a club like feel to events. Coming from a bar and club DJ background, I knew there had to be clients out there who wanted both – a legitimate DJ as well as a host and emcee. Fast forward to today, and now it is much more common to find both, but when I started it definitely wasnt, and that was my opening!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am quite introverted and usually in ‘recovery mode’ after each weekend’s events, so I suppose that I don’t really do too much to have an up to date opinion, but if one of my L.A. friends were to visit, we would definitely go down the coast to any of the beaches or beach areas. When I do go out, it is usually to the beach in Carlsbad. Gaslamp is a great area as well, as is Mission Bay.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person that deserves the most credit for helping me get started is Earl Henry of MyDJs. He unfortunately passed away last year, but his example and help over the years is where I attribute my current success to.
