We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Lucek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to start my own business because I had been in the fitness industry for 9 years and figured it was time to open my own studio! I also am a single mom so I wanted to create a life that I could do what I love while simultaneously spend time with my almost 4 year old daughter.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of the fact that I adjusted and adapted everything that came my way during a Global Pandemic, and am still here!! Six months into starting my business the Pandemic arrived. I have managed to still grow my Client base and stay motivated to keep pushing through every obstacle that has presented itself.

I think what sets me apart from others is that I am an East Coaster bringing some grit’ to the West Coast! I genuinely love people and love what I do professionally. I care about each and every person that comes into my gym. I like to believe that people come into my gym and it feels like walking into their second family! “Real People, Real Bodies, Real Progress” is my slogan for a reason;)

I got to be where I am today by taking risks and believing in myself. I have a pretty dope crowd constantly cheering me on along the way. My sister thinks I am crazy for some, but with no challenge there is no change! Was it easy? NO. I can honestly say that I hit a TON of bumps in the road, but still managed make Shit happen! That’s what is so exciting for me! You can do anything you put your mind to. You Constantly grow by making mistakes and then learning by them. And making change the next time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you were visiting me from out of town, I would definitely bring you to some amazing places! The beaches in San Diego are the best in the country:) Drinks and dinner along any beachfront is good with me! I will say that Coronado is probably my favorite. It is dog friendly, amazingly clean and I swear the sand has gold in it!

The San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park are a MUST when you visit! If you love to people watch, you definitely need to hang in Ocean Beach for a few hours. Make sure it’s a Wednesday so you can catch the farmers market and have a craft cocktail or beer and watch the sunset:)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to send my shoutout to my friends and family who invested and believed in me. I also want to shoutout to my sister who helps run the entire backend of my business! I do not know where I would be if I didn’t have her in my life and business:) I also want to shoutout to my mentors that helped me along the way and inspired me to live the life I want! Lastly, I want to shoutout to my entire village of friends who helped me navigate life as a single mom and the help I have received in raising her. It takes a village and I am very grateful for mine!
