Meet Kendra McClaskey | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra McClaskey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendra, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I am a mother to a beautiful 3 year old and we have another little boy on the way. My daughter knows how much I love being a photographer, and I think it is really important for her to watch me pursue my passion. I want her to know that she can truly do anything that she puts her mind to. Sometimes its scary, sometimes you don’t know how people will respond or resinate with your work, but the most important thing you can do is follow your heart and never give up! I’ve always been told, do what you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I call myself a life photographer. I photograph weddings, family sessions, engagement and more. What sets me apart is that since I have experience in a variety of photography fields, I can provide a different perspective. I am also ALWAYS learning and evolving. In addition to that, I can really shoot in any lighting situation. Many photographers are natural light only. Don’t get me wrong, I am a sucker for golden hour. But if the lighting isn’t ideal, or if the weather isn’t cooperating, I have the option of bringing in artificial light and making it not look artificial. With me, you get a truly personalized experience. I listen to your vision and do whatever I need to in order to turn it into reality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most people will probably recommend places by the beach. I think that Eastern San Diego is so underrated! I personally love the San Diego Safari Park, which is more north Eastern San Diego. The park is huge and has over 1,800 acres. My favorite part of the park is the open grassland area that you can go through on the tram, where you can see animals interacting with one another just like they would in the wild. The views throughout the park are also breathtaking. After that I would head up to Julian, which is was established during the gold rush. you can even go through a gold mine! Once you’ve explored the town, stop by Wynola Pizza, Julian Hard Cider, and Mom’s Pie House. They are my all time favorites!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has absolutely been my biggest supporter in my photography career. He has always encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone. He actually bought me my first DSLR, and always let me take pictures of him to practice! I would also love to shout out my dear friends Niki and Audrey, who have also played huge roles in my journey, allowing me to use them as models to try new things and continue to strengthen my portfolio.
