Carolynn Bottino | Bookkeeper & Money Empowerment Mentor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolynn Bottino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carolynn, what do you love most about your work?
There are so many reasons I love what I do! Every day I am grateful for the clients I work with. I love our relationship. I love that I get to help them build businesses. I love that I can help them understand their numbers in a way that makes sense to them. I love watching them grow and expand. I love that I am able to do what I love on my own terms. I make my own schedule, work from home and I can take off a random Tuesday when I have friends in town to hang out at the beach. I try to incorporate Fun Fridays where I do something really fun on a Friday just because I can, or I do Me Mondays where I do something to nourish my soul. I am so grateful I am doing something I am passionate about.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After working with more than 100 bookkeeping clients, I was inspired to empower to people to find joy in their relationship with money, and so the Money Empowerment Project was born. As a bookkeeper, I have the privilege of seeing first hand the intimate relationship people have with their money. So many business owners approach their money with fear and scarcity. I have seen so many levels of wealth and poverty in my clients’ bank accounts, but interestingly, the bank balance has no direct correlation to how abundant someone feels. Abundance is not a destination, it is a feeling. I believe there is a huge need for business owners to explore their relationship with money and learn how to live abundant lives. This is a combination of creating practical money systems and working on your money mindset. Money doesn’t have to be scary – it can actually be joyful. I recently published my first book The Land of Plenty: A Soulpreneur’s Guide to Finding Joy, Possibility and Abundance through Money Empowerment. In my book, I share a lot of my personal money transformation story along with practical tips to unlearn the money beliefs that are holding you back, how to take deliberate action to create abundance, and leave fear, guilt, and shame behind. For me, in order to follow my dreams I had to work through the barriers that were holding me back. It took a lot of trail and error, but as I started to peel back the layers of resistance and fear, I was able to make shifts in my beliefs and my business to support me moving forward. I learned you don’t have to work so hard all the time and at all costs. Sometimes less is actually more. Just because you start on one path doesn’t mean you have to follow that path forever. If you aren’t happy, change something. If you are feeling on the verge of burnout, make the shifts in your business that will support your well-being. It is always ok to say no to potential clients or projects that aren’t a good fit. It is never too late to evaluate where you are and where you want to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love going for a bike ride along the coast in North County. Being right next to the water mile after mile is breathtaking. I also love to take visitors to Cordiano Winery to watch the sunset, Stone Brewery in Escondido for lunch, and Barrel Republic in Carlsbad for happy hour. What I love most about the San Diego area is that every little town has its own vibe and there are so many wonderful local restaurants and shops to check out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today without the love, support and encouragement of my tribe. Over the past several years I have built amazing relationships with strong women who have contributed to my success in many different ways. Some of them are clients who have become friends, some are people I have met networking, and others are coaches and mentors who I have hired to help me. All of them have contributed to my success by helping me see what is truly possible.
