We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelston Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelston, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?\
As a minority male, I am and will always be in the fight for a better life and community. Therefore, any project or business venture I am involved in should reflect that. From every aspect of my brand, from Feed the Homeless to the Date Night Chef, it is all geared towards that goal. For instance, feed the homeless is self explanatory. No one in this country should be homeless, but at the very least, they can be fed. I like to think I tackle one ongoing issue in our community head on, which is poverty. Furthermore, another issue in our community is broken homes. Not only is it an issue, I believe is it paramount in the disenfranchisement of my people. The Date Night Chef helps bring the romance and love aspect back in our homes, This is essential to the family dynamic.

What should our readers know about your business?
Wow, where do I begin? A wise person once said “nothing worth it is ever easy.” So easy? No. Worth it? Yes. The road I took to get here is actually more of an actual road than figuratively speaking. When I first introduced the Date Night Chef, the majority of my clients were several miles away from where I resided at the time. I drove from Stockton to San Diego, each and every weekend with sometimes just enough money to break even. I knew however the publicity I would get from being present would be worth way more than the pay, and I was right. I received so much exposure, which helped jumpstart my business overall. What sets me apart from others is my creativity and my island roots. Being a native of Barbados, I was born with something that just cannot be taught in any kitchen. I bring that soul and energy to every dish I create. What I want the world to know my brand is a depiction of the man you see before you. I took several detours before I found the road to my destiny, and I plan to travel this one indefinitely.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.\
I absolutely love eating at my colleagues restaurants Louisiana Purchase Chef Quinnton Austin, Ranch 45 Chef Duval Warner, Sunnies Ocean Beach, Catch LA. For drinks I’m usually at raised by wolves, Mavericks PB, Polite Provisions and walks on the Mission Beach Board Walk and Balboa Park. I also love hanging out on the water on the Standard Yacht yacht charters It’s so relaxing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My greatest inspiration and also where I first learned to cook comes from my father, Ian Hinds. He is the epitome of etiquette. Another inspiration is my son, Kyrie. For him, I will never give up. He deserves an extraordinary father and that is what he will always see.
