We had the good fortune of connecting with Shinobu Hindert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shinobu, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson entrepreneurship has taught me is to be strategic in planning but unattached to the outcome. This concept is incredibly challenging to practice but what my business looks like today versus what it looked like at inception is completely different. If I would have attached to a single idea I wouldn’t have presented with the opportunities that I have today and who knows if I would have burned out or even had to fold this business. Being unattached to the outcome doesn’t mean I’m not fully vested in what I’m doing but instead I’m giving myself space to let go of expectation. This has allowed me to change course time and although it’s uncomfortable in the moment the end result has always been rewarding, not just for my business but for me personally.
What should our readers know about your business?
Empowered Planning helps busy people understand how to invest and build wealth through actionable, easy to digest digital courses. Since we never learned how to build wealth in school, we need the foundation of how this all works in order to feel empowered by our finances. I’ve worked in the financial industry for about 15 years spending the bulk of my career as a financial adviser. While I enjoyed my job, I realized there was no easy solution for people who are trying to build wealth. My peers didn’t have resources available to them that wasn’t buried in financial jargon. I created Empowered Planning because I saw a huge gap in the industry that was underserving my peer group. I am all about education but knowing and doing are two separate things. What sets Empowered Planning apart is my unique teaching method that’s based on step-by-step action. This is what changes lives!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love walking on the beach or hiking around Torrey Pines. The ocean is so vast and it reminds me I’m just one little part of beautiful Mother Earth! I would definitely grab some pancakes with my bestie at Breakfast Republic, head anywhere on the coast and walk off breakfast! I would take her to my old stomping grounds in South Park and North Park to check out all the local shops, places like Pigment and Holy Matcha, yum yum! I would definitely hang out at Sunset Cliffs with probably some more food, let’s be honest! Cheese, crackers and some refreshments on the cliffs sounds like a good time to me!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Community has been the backbone of my success. I definitely need to give a shout out to Grace and the entire Quench Community, Virgen & Christian and ComethroughSD, Katie of Business Church to name a few! Starting a business shortly before the pandemic began made success bleak. These communities gave me light and a path to be among greatness and inspiration!
