Meet Denise Scatena | Publicist & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Scatena and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in San Diego. I am a third-generation San Diegan, with roots established in Barrio Logan, City Heights, and Clairemont. I come from a line of entrepreneurs who owned neighborhood markets, an after hours parking lot sweeping service, a popular hamburger stand, and managed apartment rentals. Both of my grandfathers had careers in civil service, in addition to managing these businesses. I guess that is where I get my passion for entrepreneurship and community service.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Scatena Daniels Communications is a full-service public relations agency. We are award-winning, senior communications professionals who specialize in media outreach, content creation, community engagement, and project management. Our entire team is well-respected and has deep knowledge and expertise in strategic public relations and philanthropy. Our strategy and tenacity position our clients as “go-to” media resources and spokespersons. Our team is continually recognized for our work and commitment to our craft. Most recently I was named the 2020 PR Professional of the Year by PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter. This was quite an honor, especially as we all faced the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic. Despite COVID-19, our business is thriving. I am very proud of how we provided communications leadership to corporate and philanthropy clients as they adjusted their program and service models and work processes. We expanded our crisis communications work and expertise. We lifted up the front-line work of our clients in response to the COVID-19 crisis, racial injustice, digital divide, and other social justice initiatives.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you to my family who supports me in my entrepreneur’s journey.
