Meet Care Rodgers: Dog Trainer, Daycare, Sitter + Walker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Care Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Care, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own company for a variety of reasons, I never thought it would have grown to where it is now of course, but the reasons remain the same. I wanted to do something I love every single day; for me that meant something with dogs. After we rescued our dog, Fenway, we could not find care for her that met our critique. I wanted someone to have the highest standards ever, at a price that was affordable, and that did not exist. I was working at a vet clinic at the time, and after four months of starting my company (@FenwaysRunway), I left my job and went full-time for myself. I have been a dog trainer, walker, sitter, and overall obsessed professional snuggler for over seven years now and a dog lover my entire life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Fenway’s Runway is compassionate, professional, and affordable, dog training, daycare, sitting & walks. We are set apart from all other pet care options because we are not a facility, we do not have employees, your dog is never alone or unsure of where they are. We are a home, we are a family, we are 8000 ft.² of fully fenced grass to run and play and sniff. We are couches and beds and blankets and snuggles and treats and safe pup socializing. I am not a random person watching your dog, or coming into your home, I am a full-time dog trainer with years of experience that will always have your dog’s best interest in mind.

Dog training is always one on one and at your home to fully customize exactly what your dog’s needs are and reach those goals as soon as possible. We have no competition because there is no other company like ours: there is no other Fenway, there is no other me.

Right now, I am especially excited with the launch of our new shop. I love everything but am especially obsessed with the Fenway hoodie!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have visitors a lot and certainly have our staples in San Diego. Start your visit with a morning walk down Sunset Cliffs and then stop in at Sunnies Mexican Cafe for breakfast burritos or fried fish tacos. Then head to Ocean Beach and roam Newport Ave for people watching. Stop at Chris’ Liquor for some unique IPAs and drool worthy sandwiches, then drive up to La Jolla and picnic under the hang gliders at the cliff. Be sure to check out seal beach in La Jolla too (the seals are cute, but also smelly, you have been warned). Then come back down toward Harbor Island and watch the sunset at Coasterra or Island Prime – be sure to grab a cocktail! Finish the day with a night out in Little Italy. Walk India St. and do some bar hopping or stay casual and get some ice cream at Salt & Straw (try some free samples first or skip the line entirely and buy a pint from the fridge)! With so much to do here, you can enjoy San Diego for a day, week, or month – The best part? Your dog can join & have their own vacation here with us at Fenway’s Runway! 

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
More than anyone, I dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Matthew. Not only does he continue to serve our country in the Navy, but he has been a devoted husband and father through it all. Plus, he has to live with me and all my millions of puppies that shed and pee and chew and all the things. He is my best friend and #1 supporter but has also been such a mush to all the furry friends we have over; Sometimes I don’t know who they like more.

I also must shout out all my incredible clients and how they constantly refer me, tag me, and shout ME out. To date I have never paid for advertising and that is due to the incredible people I get to work with every day. Thank you for telling your friends all about us!
