Meet Roux Shankle | recording artist/songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roux Shankle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roux, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
im always gonna take the risk. i think you can hear it my in music. it doesn’t sound like anyone else’s in the scene and im really proud of that. im a naturally intuitive person so it comes off as easy but there is alot of vulnerability in every creative choice i make. i try to intentionally take the risk, if that makes sense

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
i think what sets me apart from others is my versatility and attention to detail. my music stretches across rap, pop, r&b, boom-bap, punk & soul. i can do anything i want creatively. i think that can come off as intimidating to some of my peers. im not competing with anyone or anything other than my level of taste. i got here with talent, luck, consistency & hard work. i think the hardest part, which alot of public creatives can relate to, is being projected upon. thats the part of the gig no one teaches you about. and also how to handle adversity. its not easy but i just got a new tattoo that says “know yourself” to keep me grounded. i want people to feel my work more than anything i could tell them about what i want them to know. maybe that i am constantly evolving. people should know that, i guess. what ever box you have me in is the wrong one.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
thats a great question. i actually use the yelp app alot to keep track of really great restaurants i visit so we are gonna be set in that department. i think San Francisco is an interesting city so i would maybe plan some stuff there. they have cool museums and stuff. all of my friends around the ages of forty and up are super dope and inspiring. they also put me on to dope stuff around the city so we might link up with them

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
i want to shoutout my group MacArthur Maze & Slapwagon Studios! wow super grateful for all those folks. alot of what you see and hear is because of them. i would have been completely fine just making songs for myself but they really inspire me and push to keep putting myself out there. its a brotherhood.
