We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Klyczek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
That’s an easy one; my staff. They are the heart and soul of G3Kids. This industry in unique in the fact that our relationships with our parents and families is paramount to our success. Without such valued staff members who create a safe and loving environment for children to come to every day, my business would not be what it is now. They go above and beyond by creating a fun atmosphere that allows children to be able to make personal and social connections with their peers and staff. When I hire someone to become part of our G3 family, I want them to value our mission: Active Bodies Growing Minds. Helping my staff understand the importance of education through movement is what allows us to thrive in our community. I began in this industry without the key to success. Little did I know, it was right in front of me the entire time. The most important part of any business is the who, not what.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my first business at 17. I grew up in a small town in Illinois where there wasn’t much opportunity for entrepreneurship. I made my way to California where I eventually opened two small businesses over the course of ten years . One of the biggest challenges was running a business where I was the only employee. Until I was able to afford to hire others, I had the burden of taking on all tasks. Although that was challenging, it allowed me to learn through failure. My first company was not as successful as my second or third. That is simply due to the fact that I was learning as I went. G3Kids has been the highlight of my entrepreneurship. We are a staple in our communities by creating such close relationships with families. We are not just gymnastics and parkour classes. We run summer camps, preschool prep programs, and are currently facilitating online learning for students K-5. Our ability to be a constant for our families has been integral to our success. I believe we are creating not only a brand, but an environment that sets us apart through our gymnastic and learning environments.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in San Diego brings a lot of friends and family to town. Who doesn’t want to come visit one of the best cities in the country? Gorgeous beaches, upbeat nightlife, a variety of terrain to hike and of course, our well known laid back vibe. Since food takes priority in my book, I usually plan anyones visit around where we will eat. I never miss the mark with Hawaiian dishes at Leilani’s Cafe -spam musubi anyone? To beat the dinner crowds, taking my guests on a small food tour around Convoy St for lunch is a must. Whoever thought revolving sushi would be such a hit in San Diego? Kura sushi amazes them every time. Across the street Tasty Noodle House features authentic Chinese food and from there we usually wander to find new places I haven’t been to yet (it’s become a challenge for any visitor). Craft & Commerce with their speakeasy is always a crowd pleaser for dinner and drinks. If we want something more casual, Pacific Beach Fish Shop has oysters that no one can get enough of. With so many things on guests to-do lists, it can be hard to navigate sometimes. At least one staple like the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park or the Midway Ship always makes the list. Some other, more unique adventures I’ve ended up on with visitors were things like nighttime LED paddle boarding in the bay with stingrays and fish swimming under you, the Rum Runners Caves in Ocean Beach used during prohibition or the haunted Cosmopolitan Hotel. Hands down, one of my favorite things to do is bring my guests for a beach bonfire at Fiesta Island where you can see the entire city light up at night. Nothing like relaxing after a long day of running around.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My amazing, supportive family. They lift me up when I am overwhelmed and allow me to take time for myself to recharge. I couldn’t do it without them!
