Meet Kate Morris | Country Music Artist and Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a mom of two young girls starting a career in music, finding balance was a challenge— to say the least. I’m an independent artist releasing my first single, learning to navigate uncharted territory while still making sure dinner gets on the table and the laundry gets done. Over time—and through a lot of trial and error—I’ve started to find a rhythm that works. It wasn’t easy, but it’s been worth it.
I’ve learned to be more present in whatever’s in front of me, whether that’s helping with homework and spending time with my family or emailing playlist curators, rehearsing for shows and creating content. Songwriting has become my outlet and has given me a therapeutic balance—a place where I can step outside the world of “mom, wife, and errands” and create completely made-up stories, or dive deep into my own experiences as a mom. It’s given me a way to process all the emotions that come with raising kids and riding life’s highs and lows.
My hope is that my story encourages other women to chase the thing they think is impossible just because they’re moms. Your kids will watch you find your joy—and they’ll be inspired to find theirs too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is storytelling through songwriting. I’ve always been drawn to country, blues, and rock—and I think I’ve found a way to blend the three into a sound that feels uniquely mine, one that really complements the stories I tell. I’m so proud and excited to have my first single, “Preach,” out in the world, and it’s an incredible feeling when you hear someone say they connected with my music. That’s one of the biggest reasons I do this—there’s nothing like a song that hits you deep.
I’ve been singing and writing songs my whole life, but October marked one year since I started performing live and sharing my originals. It’s been a whirlwind—equal parts thrilling and challenging—and I’ve learned so much in such a short time. I’ve grown in confidence, learned to put myself out there, and discovered what it truly means to show up professionally as an artist.
At the core of everything I do is authenticity. I want to make real connections with people who truly love the music. I want to show the world that you can be a mom and still chase your dreams—and that there’s nothing you can’t do when you’ve got a fire in your soul.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I lived in Los Angeles for many years before relocating to South Orange County, and I’d definitely split our time between both spots. In LA, I’d show my friend the classic SoCal beach life with a day in Santa Monica or Malibu. I used to hike Runyon Canyon a few times a week, so that would be a must—and I’d add in the Escondido Falls hike in Malibu for a more lush scenery. For food, I’d take them to Pace in Laurel Canyon, grab a quick slice at Vito’s Pizza, sushi at Sushiya, and maybe a more bougie night out at Craig’s on Melrose. Desert 5 Spot is also a must for a night at the bar! We’d fit in some shopping on Melrose and maybe a little window shopping on Rodeo Drive.
Down in Orange County, I’d rent a duffy boat to cruise through Newport Harbor and spend time along the beautiful beaches up and down the coast. Dinner at Ospi and some line dancing at Westwood in Costa Mesa would be a must, and River Street Market in San Juan Capistrano is always a great time. We’d end the night at my favorite local dive, The Swallows Inn, for a fun and rowdy night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been so lucky to have an incredible support system around me. My husband has been my biggest supporter—he’s 100% behind me pursuing what I love—and my two girls are the reason I keep pushing. They’re my biggest inspiration, and I want them to see that no dream is too big or too small to chase.
My guitar player, Jay Christ, has played such a huge role in bringing my music to life. He believed in my songs from the moment he first heard me play. And Writers Round Orange County gave me the encouragement and space to get my feet wet performing, which really helped me build confidence on stage.
