Meet Mike & Carrie Foster

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike & Carrie Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike & Carrie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Killer Dana kind of found us; my wife worked at the shop and in 2016 Killer Dana Surf Shop was subject to closure by the owners at that time.
We just felt in our souls that the brand had to be saved as it held the memories and tales of the legendary surf break, known as “Killer Dana” . Killer Dana Surf Shop continues to carry on the legacy of Dana Points rich surf history and culture.
So we found a wonderful partner and jumped in and haven’t looked back.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Killer Dana prides itself in being a true Mom and Pop Surf Shop. We care about the experience that we provide each and every customer, as we are deeply invested in and connected to our community. We tailor every interaction to the customer, making sure each leave with a new found love and respect for Dana Point’s rich history and culture. From surfboards to sweet treats, we’ve created a space where beach culture meets a little indulgence. We go above and beyond in order to assure our patrons leave satisfied and stuffed with the nostalgic Thrifty’s ice cream!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The journey would start with a cruise down Highway 1 PCH to the sands of Doheny State Beach. Once our toes are wet, a favorite local burger and fried zucchini will be calling our name from A’s Burgers, just a quick jump back onto PCH. After the meal has been devoured, Killer Dana Surf Shop will be the next stop for some shopping and surf history. While there, Thrifty’s ice cream will catch our eye and we will have to grab a scoop, enjoying it whilst relaxing and playing a game of pinball. Time to walk off the calories and head on up to the stunning pathways of Salt Creek Beach. Here, we can take in the breathtaking sunset and rolling waves, while sipping on a glass of wine from Young’s Beach Shack and talking surf, the perfect end to a sublime day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
