We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My background is rich with creative pursuits, including work as a professional dancer, choreographer, jewelry designer, and sculptor. I have always followed my heart, driven by the conviction that one should do what they love. Plus, my parents were creatives, so it just seemed natural to me.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sugar Blossom Bake Shop has been one of the most challenging, exhausting, yet rewarding careers in my life. It began in March 2020, right when COVID shut down most businesses. I’ve learned that not everything goes as planned, and sometimes you just have to adapt and make things work. And they always do.

Cake is our number one focus and our passion. What I am most proud of is that each week, our successful and creative team produces numerous beautiful custom cakes for our wonderful customers, celebrating something special. There’s a lot more that goes into cake production than most people might think. There’s ordering supplies and ingredients, the baking, making buttercreams, and fillings, handcrafting edible decor for the many different themed cakes, the building of cakes, the cake structure, the icing, the decorating, and the packaging. And before any of that, there’s the design call or email from the customer, with the confirmation of colors, flavors, time details, budget, you name it, it’s discussed.

I am most excited about seeing all the locals and new customers popping into the shop. Everybody seems to be happy that we stayed in downtown San Clemente, and they are loving the new cafe! From our new menu items like fresh Artisan Breads, Avocado Toasts, Sandwiches, Pastries, Quiche, Cake Slices, Organic Loose Leaf Teas, Matcha, and Boba Tea Lattes, it’s a vibe, and everything you want in a charming vintage Euro-Bakery, with the all-familiar sweet aroma of fresh baked cookies and cakes that Sugar Blossom is known for.

If I had to choose what I am most proud of, it would be that I didn’t give up when our lease was ending at our previous location. I could have called it quits, but figured that my team and I had come this far, so why quit now? Speaking of my team. I am in awe every day that they choose to spend their days as a Blossom Team Member.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Clemente is seriously one of the best places to bring a friend! We’d start with coffee at Bear Coast Coffee, followed by a walk and chat along the beach trail and pier. Next up, it’s shopping on Avenida Del Mar. My must-stop shops are Mikki’s on Del Mar, Tuvalu (up on the T), Melrose in the OC, Long Lost Jewelry, and Paradise Jewelers. Lunch would be at The Cellar, and dinner would have to be at Rare Society. Touring Franciscan Gardens, grabbing delectible chocolates from Schmid’s Fine Chocolates, and seeing an old theatre production at The Cabrillo would also be on that list.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m fortunate to know Lei Shishak, the founder of Sugar Blossom Bake Shop. She set me up for success, with her one-of-a-kind recipes, and the sweetest local following. I couldn’t have done this without her guidance and mentorship. I also want to give a shout-out to my husband & two sons. Their unwavering support, patience, and encouragement have been invaluable, and I’m grateful for their presence in my life.
