We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
In our rapidly changing world with little to no guarantees of what tomorrow may bring, my go to personal affirmation always is “today is the first day of the rest of your life.” I find this a very motivational saying that emphasizes the idea of renewal, fresh starts, and personal growth. It serves as a reminder to me that, no matter what has happened in the past, each new day presents an opportunity to make changes, set new goals, and move forward in a positive direction.

Encourages a fresh start no matter any past mistakes or setbacks, and that today is a chance to begin anew. Promotes mindfulness keeping me focused on the importance of the present rather than dwelling on the past. Inspires positive change reminding me that life always presents that opportunity for a “do over” and that I have control over my choices and have the power to shape my own future. Instills hope and optimism reinforcing the idea that every day is filled with potential and possibility.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey in education and leadership has been driven by a deep commitment to service and community. As a Trustee for one of the largest school districts in California, I saw my role as an extension of my lifelong dedication to students, families, and public education.

My path to this position began with my unwavering support for my sons’ schools, where I devoted countless hours volunteering both inside and outside the classroom. From serving as a room parent, Carnival Chair, and Library Aide to leading as the High School PTSA President, I immersed myself in ensuring our schools were thriving, welcoming spaces for all students. It was through this dedication that my community continued encouraging me to represent them for 12 years resulting in continued advocacy for students and public education for over 30 years.

Getting here was not easy. Public service, especially in education, comes with its share of challenges—difficult decisions, navigating diverse perspectives, and ensuring that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed. However, I’ve learned that resilience, integrity, and staying rooted in the mission of serving young people can overcome even the toughest obstacles.

What sets me apart is my unwavering belief that leadership is about listening, learning, and taking action that benefits students and the communities they live in. My greatest pride comes from the impact we’ve made together—expanding opportunities, advocating for quality education, and ensuring that every child has a path to success.

Ultimately, I want the world to know that my story is not just about me—it’s about the power of community, the importance of service, and the belief that every student deserves a champion. Education is the foundation of opportunity, and I am honored to play a continued role in shaping a brighter future for the next generation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1: Beachside Bliss & Boutique Browsing

Morning: Kickstart the day just south of my backyard in Capistrano Beach, soaking in the ocean air as we walk the San Clemente Beach Trail. This scenic walk will lead us past famous beaches, surfers catching morning swells, and even Nixon’s Western Whitehouse.

Midday: Refuel with a pit stop at the San Clemente Pier—munchies, cocktails, and some prime people-watching with ocean views.

Afternoon/Evening: Time for some retail therapy! Del Mar Street is a must for unique local shops, beachy boutiques, and hidden gems. Since shopping can be a workout (we’ll call it cardio), we’ll make our way to The Cellar or San Clemente Wine Company for a well-earned wine break.

Day 2: An “urban hike” starting from Gazebo Park in Capo Beach, through the Dana Point Headlands and finish at Salt Creek Beach toasting our “steps” with brewskis at Young’s Beach Shack . The grand finale? A breathtaking sunset at Pines Park, where the sky transforms into a masterpiece that never disappoints.

Day 3: History, Adventure & Laguna Magic

Morning: A quick car ride brings us to San Juan Capistrano, where history comes alive at the stunning Mission San Juan Capistrano—a peaceful, picturesque step back in time.

Midday: We’ll wander the Train Depot, soak in the town’s Spanish charm, and squeeze in a little friendly competition on the pickleball courts near the iconic San Juan Library. (Loser buys the next round of margaritas!)

Afternoon: No visit is complete without Laguna Beach exploration! A stroll through Heisler Park offers dreamy coastal views, followed by a margarita break at Las Brisas (because vacation mode is in full effect).

Evening: We’ll snap some Instagram-worthy shots at Laguna’s historic tower on Main Beach before deciding whether to catch a live show, wander the galleries, or just soak in the local scene.

Bonus: If It’s Summer…
Day Two turns into an art-filled adventure at the Sawdust Festival! Wandering through the artist village, watching live demos, and maybe even bringing home a handmade treasure—this is pure Laguna magic.

Additional Days we would be devoted to the beach and zesty surfside gossip 😉

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly believe that no success is ever achieved alone, and I am incredibly grateful for the love, support, and encouragement that have shaped my journey. My biggest shoutout goes to my sons, who have been my greatest inspiration and motivation every step of the way. Their strength, resilience, and love remind me daily of what truly matters.

To my family—your unwavering support, wisdom, and encouragement have been my foundation. Through every challenge and triumph, you have stood by me, and for that, I am forever grateful.

And a special extra shoutout to my new grandson—your arrival has brought an immeasurable amount of joy and a renewed sense of purpose. You are a beautiful reminder of the legacy of love, strength, and perseverance that continues through generations.
