Meet Kam Ghasemi | 3D Designer and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kam Ghasemi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kam, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was motivated by my father who one day showed me a 3d printed figurine of himself out of the blue, and I loved it so much that I contacted the creators and asked them if we could cooperate. There really was no business plan at first, only pure love for the product.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have the only full color figurine 3D printing business in San Diego. It has been a tough battle because aside from exposure, you need people to physically come in and get scanned in order to have their 3D figurine printed. Just like a traditional photo studio, but this one results in 3D and not 2D images. While I was at Fashion Valley Mall, the exposure was good and the business thrived for the first year, then the mall management changed our location and gave us a place that was not as visible as the previous one, so we started to lose business. Then came Covid and physical proximity became a taboo and people were scared to try this in person and we had no way of doing it online. Gradually though, we developed methods to create 3D printed figurines from 2D photos for people who could not or did not want to come in, although the quality of the final product maybe lower since there is so much data that we miss or have to guess in order to create a printable model. I think people need to know that what we do is the modern, 3D was of doing traditional studio photo sessions, with the difference that you can actually touch and feel the 3D result. The cost is also comparable. However, the results are %100 more amazing

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– La Jolla for sight seeing
– Coronado for sight seeing and eats
– Downtown for eats and walk by the harbor
– Balboa Park for sight seeing
– Del Mar for sight seeing and maybe check out Del Mar Fair if it is the season
– Mount Soledad to see the panoramic view of San Diego
– Pacific Beach to check out the beach and bars
– Hillcrest for unusual and fun places to eat
and not necessarily in that order!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Again, that would be my Dad who inspired me to get into this business. He was 103 years old when he found this product and made a couple of them for his family “so they remember him when he is gone!” He lived to 107 and all his kids now have a copy of one of the 3D figurines he made back then, which I recreated aftet I got my feet wet in the business
