Meet Megan Schutz | Venue Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Schutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is letting numbers drive decision-making. Working in an industry where there is so much beauty, new ideas, fresh designs–it can be tempting to go with the trends and continuously switch things up. My background in business has provided a strong financial foundation. Every decision drives back to: do the numbers work? What’s the ROI? This has enable us to steadily grow and most importantly, make decisions and changes that benefit the business and our employees.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Sinclair on G Street is a wedding and event venue in Downtown San Diego. I opened the venue in 2019 and had a great first year of business–then Covid hit. We weathered the very long storm of Covid and it challenged, stretched, and grew me in every single way possible. I do not want to relive it, but I am also grateful for the growth and discipline it provided!
I am proud to say I believe we’ve come out stronger than ever. I have the best team I’ve ever had and I’m so excited about the venue offerings we have for our clients. I believe this business is about people and how you can best serve them on some of the most impactful days of their lives. We make it our mission to make these days as special and seamless as possible.
I really do think it’s all about the people: and we have the best team, and the best clients!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Such a fun question! San Diego is such a special place–I was born in raised in Del Mar so I’m a North County girl at heart, with a secret love for the energy of downtown.
Fresh off the plane, I’d take you to brunch at The Cottage in La Jolla. We’d do a wave check at La Jolla Cove.
Then it’s Point Loma Seafood for lunch–the best seafood in the city.
Of course we’d have to go downtown for a happy hour drink. I have a secret love for The Pendry’s rooftop and their trendy bar area.
Lastly, we’d head up north for dinner and sunset at Jake’s Del Mar on the sand. Best sunset spot in San Diego.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserves all the credit, especially my husband. My “why” is all about the people in my life. My entrepreneurial spirit and drive comes purely from my parents who modeled business ownership to me. They have supported me in every idea (good and bad) that I’ve had in my life and been some of my greatest cheerleaders! My husband is my sounding board and co-decision maker. I couldn’t do any of it without him.
My motivation to succeed is for my family–my husband, and my two little girls. They give me the energy to wake up each day and make this business the best that it can be.
