We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Romasanta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As an artist, I have always wanted to create for a living. I want to make an impact in people’s lives through creation. I started my creative photography and videography career by covering events such as weddings and community events with my good friend Dustin Shepard. It was fulfilling to create unique and beautiful imagery for clients that connected with our styles.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a combination of 1980’s glamour , 1920’s film noir, and catholic imagery and iconography mashed together. It took a lot of experimenting and failure to achieve a distinct style. Running a creative business is not an easy task. Not only does it take talent and skill to run a creative business, but it also requires a lot of perseverance and just a bit of luck. I am a forever student of the creative field and life itself and I am learning something new everyday. I am still not exactly where I want to be at professionally but I am happy and am trusting the process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to start our days being outdoors. I would go hiking then maybe go camping in Mount Laguna for a couple days then recover back in the city for a day and then maybe check out some establishments by Consortium Holdings like the Lafayette Hotel. We could check out interesting films at the digital gym in Downtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends Dustin Shepard, Chris Wong, Lester Guijarro and Bryant Ventura have been with my since I have started my creative and professional journey. I appreciate and value their insight both in life and in creativity.

My partner Krista Hatton supports me and we supplement each other’s creativity and art. She pushes me to stay prepared and inspires me to keep going even when times get tough and things aren’t going the way I anticipated.
