We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Ryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a deep passion for photography, especially working with cameras and capturing visually compelling images. At the same time, I’ve had a long-standing interest in architecture and real estate, which naturally aligned with my skills. Combining these two passions made real estate photography the perfect fit. I saw an opportunity to use my creative talents to help real estate agents showcase their properties in the best light, and I knew I could provide a valuable service that’s crucial to the success of property sales. Additionally, I wanted the freedom to set my own goals and manage projects, which is why starting my own business felt like the ideal path.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is real estate photography, which I see as the perfect blend of creativity and technical skill. What sets me apart is my ability to not only capture a property’s best features but to tell a story through my images. Real estate is more than just selling a house; it’s about creating a visual experience that connects with potential buyers. I focus on the small details and use lighting, angles, and composition to bring out the personality of each space.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d mix classic San Diego spots with local favorites. We’d start with a day at Balboa Park exploring museums and gardens, then dinner at Born and Raised for amazing food. Next, we’d hit Pacific Beach for a beach day, biking the boardwalk, and grabbing drinks at PB Shore Club. A visit to La Jolla would follow, with sea lions at the Cove and dinner at George’s at the Cove for ocean views. We’d also spend a day in North Park for brunch, brewery hopping, and exploring art galleries.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, my family and friends have been incredible throughout my journey. They’ve been there to support me, not just during the highs but especially during the struggles. Their encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue my passion and push through challenges. Whether it was offering advice, helping out when things got tough, or just being there to listen, their support has been a huge part of my success. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
