We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Carpenter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Benjamin, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
What’s the end goal? Honestly, I don’t think there is one, at least not in the way most people think of it. If you asked me where I want to be by the end of my career, I’d say—I just want to still be creating, still be chasing those moments that remind me why I fell in love with this in the first place.

I’ve never been driven by some vision of standing at the top of the mountain, looking back at a completed body of work. To me, the whole idea of an “end” in creativity feels wrong. It’s not about having some grand final product or legacy wrapped up in a bow. The real goal is to keep evolving, to keep being curious. I want to be like the guy who’s still wandering down some side street with his camera at 70, finding inspiration in the same way I did at 30.

Professionally, sure, there are milestones. I want my work to speak for itself, to connect with people, maybe even inspire them to look at the world differently. But more than anything, I want to love what I’m doing as much in the future as I do now. That’s the real goal—to never lose that hunger for the next moment, the next story. It’s the journey that makes it all worth it, and if I can ride that wave for as long as I’m able, I’ll be exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Because the truth is, the best shot, the best work—it’s always the one you haven’t taken yet. That’s what keeps me going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is my focus on capturing real, unfiltered moments. I’m not about perfection or staging—I want raw, honest life. Whether it’s a bustling street or a quiet moment, I’m chasing truth in my work.

Getting here wasn’t easy. There were a lot of challenges, but sticking to my vision and trusting the process got me through. I’ve learned that it’s okay to fail, as long as you keep pushing forward.

I want people to know that my story is about passion and evolving. I’m always learning, always searching for the next story to tell, and that’s what keeps me going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d take them on a weeklong adventure filled with food, culture, and the kind of off-the-beaten-path spots that make Mexico unforgettable. We’d start in Puebla, enjoying the incredible street food and sipping pasita at La Pasita. From there, we’d head to Cholula to climb the ancient pyramid and grab tacos at a local fonda. We’d then make our way to the stunning mountain town of Zacatlán, exploring apple orchards and drinking mezcal in hidden spots.

Next, we’d head to Cuetzalan, where we’d hike through jungles, visit waterfalls, and enjoy traditional meals at local eateries. We’d take our time, soaking in the beauty of the landscape and the vibrant local culture. Back in Puebla, we’d unwind with churros and explore the charming streets, making sure to meet the amazing people who give this place its unique spirit. The trip would be a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable flavors.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve got to give a big shoutout to Nick Betts, who *was* a sniper and is now one of the most laid-back yet focused people you’ll ever meet. Nick’s someone who’s lived a high-stakes life, but he’s never let that intensity get in the way of having a good time and enjoying the ride. He’s taught me a lot about being sharp when it counts, but also about the importance of slowing down and savoring the moment—whether it’s lining up a perfect shot with a camera or just kicking back after a long day. Nick’s the kind of guy who makes you feel like you can conquer anything, and he does it with humor, heart, and that quiet confidence that’s always inspired me to push my own boundaries, creatively and personally.
