Meet Jennifer Von Stauffenberg | Founder and President of Olive Public Relations

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Von Stauffenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
You need to be true to who you are no matter what and what holds people back most in business is usually personal. When I am feeling stuck, it always has to do with an opportunity for personal growth. In order to thrive, we need to keep growing and business gives us a lot of opportunities to continue that journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What excites me most about Olive Public Relations is that we work with amazing clients. We have the honor of illuminating a lot of greatness all the time. We just recently started working with the San Diego FC, our new professional soccer team, and we get to work with 10 different neighborhoods among many other amazing organizations like Oceanside Museum of Arts, La Jolla Art + Wine Festival, The Gondola Company, Hey Sugar, the Busalacchi Restaurants, Susan G. Komen, and so many others. I’m in awe of the good that is out there in the world and my deepest desire is to remind people of it. We live in a time when things can get pretty dark and my hope is that we are that shining light or a glimmer of goodness that inspires.
At Olive, we specialize in marketing and public relations with a focus on building relationships through creative strategies. As technology advances, how we approach this continues to change, but our services include branding development, media relations, digital marketing, social media, community activations, influencer outreach, creative events and promotions, and more.
When I think about the journey here, I find myself taking a deep breath… it has not always been easy, but it has always been inspiring. I notice when I find myself off track that I’m quickly brought back to center by scanning my email and witnessing my team report their results. No matter what challenge we are facing, I am confident they are the best and what we are doing is making a difference and it reminds me that I just need to ask better questions to get better answers.
What I want the world to know about our brand is that it’s authentic. We really love supporting businesses and people in establishing lasting relationships with the audiences they serve, and we have a beautiful track record of doing it effectively. We are passionate about building awareness of things that help people to enjoy their life.
And lastly, PR Works.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Showing visitors a great time is one of my favorite things to do. I love to appreciate San Diego like a tourist, so here’s what I would say:
Be sure to find yourself a hotel that gives you walking access to Little Italy and San Diego Bay like Hilton Bayside Campus because there is so much fun to be had right in that general area. For dining, where do I even begin?… I lived in Little Italy for about 10 years and my business has been there for almost 16, so it’s where I spend the most time.
In Little Italy, you could easily enjoy a new spot for every meal for an entire week. There are so many great places.
Barbusa for the incredible Sicilian food and fun atmosphere. You have to save room for the deconstructed cannoli, but you cannot miss out on the garlic bread either, so plan to stay awhile.
We also love Sorrento because of the great food and warm inviting hospitality.
For coffee, you could literally try a different spot every morning. Caffe Italia is my favorite go to, but I also love Frost Me when I want breakfast with my coffee.
For seafood, I love Ironside. I also love it for the ambiance and the drinks. You must order a Lobster Roll and you will likely find yourself returning a second time because it’s that great.
For a fun experience, you also should try Sam the Cooking Guy’s new restaurant called Basta. I especially love sitting outside on the patio for Salsa Under the Stars every other Thursday night. You also can order drinks at the Little Italy Food Hall or Basta and take them out to the Piazza della Famiglia.
For sweet treats, the list is endless, but you owe it to yourself to try a Nonna pastry. They are insane. Pop Pops is another family favorite along with gelato at Pappalecco.
I also think everyone should enjoy a walk around the San Diego Bay and I love to take the ferry to Coronado for dinner at Peohe’s for sunset. There is nothing more self-loving than enjoying our beautiful skyline. For bonus points, choose a night with an expected full moon. If you are lucky, you will get a fireworks show from one of the many spots along the Bay.
I would also try to book a concert at Rady’s Shell or a show at Humphrey’s because both are such quintessential San Diego experiences.
I would most definitely schedule time on the water. We have been members of Freedom Boat Club in San Diego for 10 years and there is no better way to enjoy our city than from the water and a dock and dine experience.
I always love taking people to a Padres game and to enjoy the bustle of East Village. I also just recently discovered Hinar and am obsessed with their ambiance and fresh take on a café. I literally feel transported to a different country.
I think our sunsets are so special, so I would try to squeeze in one evening at each of the following beach spots: Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla Shores, Del Mar and Oceanside.
If you want the sunset and no sand, I highly recommend the University Club for the view or Poseidon for dinner. And if you really want a full experience, visit the Gondola Company at the Coronado Cays for a sunset cruise. This is an amazing experience.
If you have kids, it’s fun to enjoy Arts District Liberty Station. We love having brunch at The Lot and then cruising around the shops and checking out the public art. There are gorgeous murals and sculptures all throughout.
If you are into farmers markets or not, you have to check out the Little Italy Mercato… it is probably the best one on the planet and happens on Saturday mornings.
Have I gone on too long? There is a lot to see here. Did you know that San Diego is also known as a biodiversity hot spot? Spending as much time outside is a must. You will be amazed by how much you get to see.
And lastly, one of my favorite artists, Sarah Stieber, is based here in San Diego and she has murals all over the city. You should visit her website and find them. They are gorgeous. www.sarahstieber.com.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to my family. My husband is one of the smartest people I know and he always steps up to the plate to help me with a challenge. And my kids… their effortless authentic expression motivates me to always stand in my own and my love for them motivates me to keep moving forward.
I would be remiss if I didn’t celebrate the Olives. My team is the best. Their powerful results give me reasons to celebrate all the time. I feel confident being creative because I have a group of women who deliver 100% of the time.
