We had the good fortune of connecting with Edwin Alba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Edwin, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
When it comes to deciding whether I should keep going or give up, I sit back and reflect on who it is that I am truly as a person…. the result is always “I’m a creative being” , It’s hardwired in me to want to create. With that being said , I don’t think I will ever stop creating or making any form of art as long as I’m able to.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I strongly believe what separates me from the rest is my devotion and pride in my work. As of right now I sew, photograph, film, promote, design, and creative direct for my brand VOOMCASH. The only thing I can’t say I do is the music, but I got time to learn. I am a one man team and I absolutely love it, they say if you want it done right you have to do it yourself! Not saying I want to remain doing everything myself because one of my goals with my brand is to expand to perhaps an atelier or even a fashion house. What I’m most proud of currently is the collection I’m working on for NYFW, in my opinion it has everything that makes a collection good like story telling, theme, and GOOD CLOTHES. I’m also very proud of my constant evolution as a person and artist, I’m proud of my growth in abilities, and I’m proud of my resilience. I got to where I am today because I never let go of my ambition and drive, most people lose that as soon as they step into the real world. The way I see it, the world is literally up for grabs… give me one GOOD reason why you can’t go and get what you want? It’s a matter of how bad you want it! To be honest putting in the work is easy to me, the hard part has always been remaining in the right frequency to align with those desires, most of the time it’s just trusting the process and being so certain it’ll work out. The biggest lesson I’ve learned would be consistency is far more effective than only doing things when you’re motivated. If I had the chance to talk about my brand with the world then I’d tell them to invest now and enjoy the satisfaction of saying ” I knew about that brand before they made it HUGE” . VOOMCASH is an extension of this lifestyle I’m creating at 19 years old, I aspire to bring quality experiences with my brand through immersive shows, films, and dope events

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly I’m not big on eating out at restaurants, visiting places, or socializing period. I’d rather prefer going to a taco shop (any in San Diego are valid) , hitting up Luigi’s pizzeria in Imperial Beach, or my beloved InNout. I love driving around the city with friends , making art, and working on my craft. If I had to recommend spots in San Diego to new comers…Kate Sessions park is dope, Definitely have to go to a Padres game (night games are better) , or a stroll around Coronado beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Man, I automatically have to shoutout my parents, they’re the homies for real. Their support for my sisters and I goes back over 2 decades ago when they immigrated from Tijuana to San Diego in hopes of giving us a better environment to grow up in. It’s inspiring seeing their accomplishments as they literally came to the U.S. with no stability and just worked their tail off to get to their current position. From being the first homeowners in their generation of the family, to owning their business, I let that be the battery in my back to keep going and never settle for less. Shoutout to my parents PABLO and NANCY. Besides my parents, I wanna give a special shoutout to anyone who has given me an opportunity, shared some wisdom, and supported my journey. It truly means a lot, and I hope to reciprocate the energy back in surplus amounts!
