We had the good fortune of connecting with Kunal Gupta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kunal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The decision to start my own business was very carefully and thoroughly thought out prior to launching it in early 2023. This was always an endeavor that I could picture myself doing for many years.

At the time I decided to start Gold Path, I had accumulated over a decade of professional experience within corporate finance and wealth management. I had also completed my MBA and was an active CFA Charterholder. After working in multiple industries and various finance functions, I realized that my passion was helping others live more financially fulfilling lives. It was too common for many millennials like me and other generations to feel many years behind in financial goals such as becoming a homeowner, paying off student loans, funding their children’s education, saving for retirement, etc. I learned that most people did not feel confident that they will have enough money to last them until they leave Earth,

The best way for me to help others make smart and informed financial decisions and to have full autonomy in the methods, process, and recommendations I make to others was to own my own wealth management firm. I felt that having my own business was not a job but a way for me to do what I enjoy most every day at work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My firm is a full-service financial planning and wealth management firm in the San Diego metropolitan area. We create comprehensive financial plans and roadmaps as well as manage money for various accounts (401K/403B, IRA, Roth IRA, 529 plans, individual investment accounts, etc.) so that individuals can best accomplish their short and long-term financial goals. All of our services our tailored specifically to each individual (no cookie cutter approach) in order to best serve clients and maximize their long-term financial wealth. We also provide each client with personalized attention and strive for 100% client satisfaction.

We have seen steady growth the past several months. It has not been easy, and we have come across many challenges. The main challenges have been to get strong visibility in our local community and to articulate how our services may be beneficial to a significant percentage of people. We have used social media marketing and outreach to convey the mission of our firm and to help educate others on how our firm can add value to the life of individuals and families.

The main lessons I have learned are that there is no single approach that will yield success for any firm. The best way to succeed and grow is to be persistent, adapt to the environment, and be prepared to try many different marketing/branding approaches for success.

I would like the world to know that our company is dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve the financial goals they have set for themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is very diverse and has so many great sites to see, especially for outdoor lovers. Some of the places I would take them include:

1) Beaches. San Diego has many great beaches. Some I would have my best friend see include Coronado, Del Mar, and La Jolla

2) Coffee Shops: Several good copy shops in La Jolla Cove and downtown San Diego, CA.

3) Bars and Restaurants: Gaslamp is vibrant at night and has many good restaurants/bars. Little Italy, Hillcrest, and North Park have many great places to eat as well.

4) Malls/Shopping: There are some good shopping areas and some I would have him visit include Fashion Valley and Westfield UTC.

5) Fun Things to see: San Diego Padres game, SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my wife Trisha. It has been through her support and encouragement that I am a business owner today and have been able to persevere through obstacles I have come across.
