We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenn Dubock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Glenn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After a very rewarding 40 year career in Marketing and Editorial photography, I decided to change it up a bit by opening my own online gallery, dubockgallery.com. I just felt like I needed to share with the world the images that came from my creative process – not the ones that I was directed to take by clients and publications. A scary proposition – to bust out there and try to sell the images sang out to me!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve often said that I am the luckiest photographer on the planet. I can’t say that I have planned out anything in my creative life, I tend to just follow the light where it takes me. My art focuses on the coastal areas and the way the light dances on the water. A few key phrases provide constant inspiration:

If there is magic on this earth, you can see it in water.

Every photograph is a window and a mirror…a portal to something just beyond us and a reflection of what we were feeling at the moment of capture.

I joined a group of artists and photographers that are guided into the commercial space of producing images for sale called Art Storefronts. They coach me on every step of the process, run the back end of my website, provide order fulfillment and make it easy for me to create images for sale.
The start up of this venture has been massively time consuming – 2 years in and I am just starting to see the fruits of my labor.
Getting my work out in front of a receptive audience has been the biggest challenge. It takes a persistent approach and a willingness to constantly evolve.
I am blessed that my artistic approach to a common subject has resonated with a very loyal audience that enjoy my vision and want to have it add some joy or drama to their homes and workplaces.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in what many consider to be one of the few remaining small towns on the coast of California. Carpinteria has always had a charm that can’t be manufactured or bottled. We have preserves like the Bluffs and Salt Marsh, a lively Arts Center where I can share my latest work and some great restaurants and brew pubs.
Movie stars and billionaires live and play amongst us….but we pay them no mind and they like that.
Rincon Point is legendary for its long waves and surfers come from around the world to sample them.
Hiking on the Franklin Trail in the Santa Ynez Mountains is a sunrise ritual that would start any visit off with a panoramic view of this special slice of coast.
Breakfast at Esaus restaurant would take care of any hunger pangs but would need to be followed by a brisk walk along the shore to burn off all those excess calories.
A hike along the Bluffs to the Seal Rookery overlook would allow a visitor to see one of the few remaining habitats for harbor seals and their newborns.
Strolling through the many unique shops on Linden Avenue would be a great lead-in to a fresh brewed beer at Island Brewery, winner of many international awards for their handcrafted hops.
Dinner has got to be a mexican selection at any one of the family owned taquerias.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friend, Clay Feeter, whom I met 40 years ago on April 19, 1984, has always been a huge influence, mentor and supporter of my work. Via the various publications he has produced, Clay has showcased my images and given them a worldwide audience. During all the years we worked together on publications highlighting innovative action water sports, Feeter never once told me what image to take – rather he trusted my creative instincts to come back with the photos that would tell the story and engage the reader. He was the first person I consulted when I decided to launch my new online gallery and continues to be my greatest cheerleader. We have never lived within 300 miles of each other and yet we still finish each others sentences – our respective wives think we are twin brothers from separate mothers !
