We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Moreno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, what is the most important factor behind your success/ the success of your brand?
The most important factor behind the success / the success of my brand is that I want to always make sure I am being transparent and remaining authentic to the person I am and creating from a place where it is real and natural as best as possible. I take pride in showing my vulnerability through my brand, so that it allows others to feel comfortable being vulnerable too. I have realized being myself and creating art that comes straight from my heart and true emotions; many people tend to gravitate towards it, which then leads me to connect with those who support my brand at a deeper level.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

What sets me apart from others is that I create from a place of vulnerability and I am constantly evolving as a creative. I started from just writing poetry about things I went through, my feelings and thoughts. Then it transformed into me creating inspirational/motivational and meaningful videos . I create the writing portion and I also have grown to enjoy taking pictures/videos for it to go along with the writing piece I create. I am most proud of all the connections I have made along with the people who support my art and hearing others feel a positive impact by my art. It is a beautiful feeling to know others gravitate towards something I have created and poured my heart into.

I am excited to keep building connections and having a positive impact on others and also look forward to finalizing my book and being able to officially say I am a self published author in the near future. I got to where I am today by always believing in myself, and being consistent in everything I do! Also, by not rushing the process and not creating in a place where I do it for the wrong reasons; letting everything flow naturally.

It has not been an easy journey , but I am learning to take it one day at a time and appreciate the process and everything in between. As a creative or human in general we tend to be our hardest critics or let self doubt get to us , so that is one thing that I have been working on to give myself grace and be proud of my every step .

Some of the lessons I have learned along the way is that everything starts with ourselves. We are the ones who have control over the dreams and goals we want to reach. I have also learned that life will send you curve balls and at times make you feel discouraged or may bring you down, but this is when you have to take a breather and remind yourself what gives fuel to everything you do. Another lesson I have learned along the way is that it is highly important who you choose to surround yourself with and to not compare yourself to other people’s journeys, and remain true to yourself, always!

I would want the world to know that I hope my story brings you hope, inspiration and motivation. To always remember to be your biggest fan and to not be so hard on yourself. Everything takes time and it is important that we all enjoy each moment and step we take to get where we want to be,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some cool spots would be Coronado Beach, also the area close to the Ferry Landing in Coronado has quite a beautiful view. Balboa Park has a lot to see; such as museums and the Japanese Garden. A Place with cool shops/ art is Barrio Logan. Another spot with some cool shops and nice views is Seaport Village.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my grandparents Rafaela Ojeda and Demetrio Ojeda, they formed a huge part in the person I am today. They always believed in me unconditionally and taught me to never give up , be respectful, be a caring soul and have a positive attitude even when life gets tough. They are no longer by my side physically but I continue to keep their legacy alive through my writing and many others ways,

I would also give a shoutout to my friend Hildy which also passed away a few years ago, but he was always a person who always reminded me how talented I was and he was one of the catalyst on why I began writing a lot more and inspired me to open up my writing page a few years after his passing.

Secondly, I would give a shoutout to my parents for showing me to be determined, have a strong work ethic and always wanting the best for me. My mom always taught me to stand up for myself and others and she has been one of my number one supporters who is always cheering me on. A special shoutout to my sister Gaby who I look up to immensely. She has always pushed me to step out of my comfort zone , encourages me and snaps me out of moments where I feel stagnant or I let self doubt get to me.

My partner Chris for giving me ideas to elevate my brand, or being there to listen when I talk about my brand and being supportive in the best way he can. Lastly but not least two very close friends I have Oisis and Ludy. They both have always been there to listen and be present in moments where I may feel discouraged and they remind me how much potential I truly have.
