We had the good fortune of connecting with Pushpreet Kaur and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Preet, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

Growing up, I believed myself to be inclined a lot towards the look and presentation of things. I always had a flair for art and an eye for all things imaginative. I would casually stroll through art museums, and home design stores feeling fascinated by the vision and ingenuity applied in each piece. During high school, I thoroughly enjoyed the summer school I attended that focused on interior styling. My naivety was looking at designing as just a hobby, which led me to pursue a degree in accounting followed by an MBA, eventually attaining a CPA license in the state of Washington. Although it came with a feeling of great achievement and financial stability, the creative urge had only gotten stronger over the years.

Although I toyed with the idea of pursuing a creative path, establishing a business of my own was not on the cards. Therefore, starting Curated Fête was not something that was the result of a meticulous plan. I happened to design the events for family and friends which brought me immense joy and appreciation, sowing the seed to take this initiative forward. It was not a very easy decision to start a side hustle at the time since I was a full-time practicing CPA and a mom to two young boys who still needed a lot of my time and attention. The fact that even after a long day putting together events didn’t feel like work, only reassured me of my calling

Having worked as an event designer for some time now, I believe the industry has come a long way over the years, bringing with it the challenge of perceiving each celebration as a piece of art. My work is guided by a deep emotional affinity to the significance of special occasions in crafting memories that are cherished for a lifetime. I feel deeply fulfilled by the possibility of breathing life into people’s memorable occasions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I am an Event Designer and Stylist; the name of my business is Curated Fête by Preet. I design backdrops around the client’s choice of theme, budget, and inspirations combined with my vision and inventiveness to materialize a creative vision into a tangible reality. I perceive each project as a blank canvas, infusing it with carefully thought-of details, always choosing to go the extra mile and picking the best option over an easy one. I believe what sets my brand apart from others is my intention to deliver more than what is promised, curating designs that are innovative and steering clear of binding myself to recurring styles, past work, or even designs published by others. I am an ambitious creator and business owner who seizes every opportunity that comes my way. I don’t hesitate to put in the work needed for recognition and to deliver my best. Carving a path in the creative field through self-learning hasn’t been easy, but it’s achievable with relentless passion and hard work. One of the most valuable

lessons I’ve learned in the event industry is its constant evolution. Staying relevant means being attentive to changes and improvements, essential to keeping pace with trends. A resilient approach is key to maintaining success and advancing.

What I would want the world to know about my brand is that my biggest motivation is to take the stress away from you and give you the décor that makes your special occasion even more memorable. My work thrives on happy customers, and this is the energy that sparks light into my ideas and vision.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’ve called Seattle home for a solid 12 years now, and it clicked right from the moment I landed here from my hometown in India. Washington State’s got it all – stunning mountains, serene lakes, plus a buzzing food and hangout scene. When guests come to town, our adventure kicks off in downtown Seattle, hitting up the iconic Space Needle and lively Pike Place Market. And for dinner? The Pink Door is our go-to spot, with its killer Italian cuisine and live tunes setting the vibe just right.

Then I would take them for a drive toward a beautiful German-inspired town named Leavenworth surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. From there we would go further and visit Lake Chelan, which is another beautiful destination offering huge wineries with a great selection of wine. While there, we would rent an Airbnb with a view of the lake enjoy some quality time in the serenity, and enjoy the cute boutique stores to shop for some souvenirs from.

Once we are back from the getaway, I would take my friend around Woodinville and Bellevue since they are the happening towns with famous restaurant chains, shopping, and microbreweries. There are so many places for hikes with varying difficulty levels. My favorite family-friendly hike is the Big Four ice caves. It’s a very doable, easy-going hike and takes you close to the ice caves and beautiful waterfalls. Finally, we plan to visit the Mount Rainier National Park and take a ride on the vintage train pulled by steam locomotive. It takes the passengers through the beautiful Pacific Northwest landscape.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My first shoutout goes to all the inspiring people and businesses I have come across who made a difference by following their creative interests. Understanding their journey towards growth over the years is from which I derive the reassurance that belief in one’s work, a growth mindset, and resilience can take you a long way toward achieving

your goals. I am grateful to have received the unmatched support of my husband, family, and friends. I am grateful to have been part of networking groups and met wonderful women who have been a source of guidance and support.
