We had the good fortune of connecting with X and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi X, why did you pursue a creative career?
Because it’s how I keep sane. At first it was simply for the fun of it; I enjoyed playing instruments, writing songs, jamming with friends, and getting to do it in front of other people was a thrill. But as time went by and my songwriting improved, I found that music was the best thing I had that allowed me to release every pent up emotion I was feeling. Writing about topics that are very deep and close to my heart, and getting to perform them in front of audiences allowed me to release those emotions in a healthy way. Not everyone has an outlet like that, and I see it get the better of a lot of people when they have no choice but to bottle everything up inside. Music was there for me when I needed it most.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Things started out similarly to how they started with every budding musician. I looked up to certain musicians like they were my heroes, and I wanted to be just like them, do what they do, and write what they write. Then it dawned on me that I wouldn’t look up to them the way I do if they shared that same mentality with me. Rather than being uniquely who they are, they would’ve been trying to copy someone else. After realizing that, my goal has always been to do something only I would ever think or be cable of. That was what enabled me to take the kind of risks that I’ve taken by doing things that no one else has really done before, and it has always paid off for me in the end. Even when no one else appreciated what I created, I always did. And that’s all that really ever matters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live in the Bay Area, a week is almost not enough time. Go into San Francisco and you can spend all day there. I especially love going to Fisherman’s Wharf, The Metreon, and Yerba Buena Gardens just to name a few. There are countless Mexican and Asian food markets and restaurants to experience some of the best cuisine California has to offer. Also, whether you’re aware of it or not, there is most likely always a live music event happening somewhere in the area almost every single night of the week. I’m also a huge amusement park fanatic, so I’d recommend going to Discovery Kingdom, Great America, or Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk one of those days. Trying to cram every possible adventure into one week would be really challenging.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of all the people I have to thank in my life, most of all I have to thank my family. They’ve given me so much support, so much opportunity, and continue to push me to extend my limits every step of the way. Were it not for them, I don’t see where I would’ve even been able to start.
